Sony has seen a lot of success in the past with re-releasing remastered versions of classic PlayStation 2 titles on the PlayStation 3. The first was the God of War Collection, which featured God of War and God of War 2, and was released in preparation for God of War 3's release on the PS3.
Since then, many other publishers have joined Sony in bringing remastered PS2 classics to the PS3. But now, it's the PSP's turn.
Sony has announced the "PSP Remaster" series of games. The first PSP title to be remastered in HD for the PlayStation 3, will be Capcom's super-successful (in Japan), Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.
While most Americans prefer home console gaming, gaming on the go (just not the PSP go) is extremely popular over in the land of the rising sun. Week over week, the PlayStation Portable tops Japanese sales charts. The popularity has led to key Japanese franchises--such as Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and more--to be released on the PSP, not the PS3. Sony could be using the success of these portable titles to lure faithful Japanese users over to the PS3, by rereleasing them in HD.
You're probably wondering how well the graphics made for the PSP's tiny screen will translate to the PS3 and your HDTV. Have a look:
What PSP games, if any, would you like to see remastered for the PlayStation 3?
Do we have to wait until Sony is on it's last leg before they resort to a FFVII HD remastered version. Change nothing but the graphics and watch and be amazed as sales climb and fanboys step out of the darkness to once again argue the merits of the epicness that is FFVII.
@shandog137- I agree with that. Every year its always talked about but is never produced. Personally, FFVII was the first RPG I highly enjoyed as a young boy and would love to see it remastered.
shandog137, you do know FF7 has nothing to do with Sony right? If I was a game company i would be pretty pissed if someone stole my IP and made an hd remake.
So, are they going the God of War Collection Route (Keep the polygons the same, but update the textures) or the Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath Route (Updating Texures and polygon counts)?
@Warmaster670 it was a ps1 exclusive and though it has nothing to do with sony, think Streetfighter HD remix. Sony can still request the right to remaster from the holder of the IP. You also wouldn't be pissed if you got a percentage of the sales revenue of a remastered version. It's called doing business.
Naked Snake on my PS3? Yes, please. Considering I spend the majority of my PS3 time playing FFTactics though...I probably won't take that much advantage of this.
Porting psp games to ps2 was cool since the psp had nearly the same graphical powert of the ps2 but to be put psp games on a beast like the ps3 is pretty lame
As I said before , Mass Effect is an incredible universe. ME1, 2 and 3 focused on Shepard’s tale but set the scene for books and graphic novels to complement that story arc and chronicle the stories of other characters such as Anderson, and the Illusive Man whose adventures feed into the events we have already played through. It’s testament to BioWare’s creation that the tapestry is so rich that even after the main plot and the complimentary plots are taken care of there is... read more...
