RAGE Gets Mandatory Install on PS3, Humongous Optional Install on 360

As RAGE is finished and shipped off to the magical place where they make video games for mass consumption, details have started spilling out about the game's size and how much space console gamers will need to fully enjoy id Software's future-apocalypse-shooter.

Word has already come straight from John Carmack that the Xbox 360 version of RAGE needs 21-22GBs of space for an install on Microsoft's console. At Gamescom, reporters have learned that the PS3 requires an 8GB install for the game. That's not an optional installation like the 360 version offers.

While my 360 hard drive only has 20 GB of space, my PS3 still has plenty of room on it. If you're not going to play RAGE on a monster PC, which console will you buy it for?

    This is fine on my 500GB as long as there aren't a lot of games coming soon that follow suit.

    If it makes the game look good enough to compete with my PC then, it looks like im going back to consoles (soon as they add steam to xbox *shakes fist*

    Gran Turismo had some rediculous install of like 10GB and I think the last metal gear had around 6-8 after all the partial installs were complete. Install...play until your bored with it....uninstall. I have a **** ton of games for my PS3 so I am used to the install/uninstall cycle.

    I won't be buying it. The install size is a bit absurd, but that's not the reason. I just won't support a company that restricts content based on whether or not you bought the game new or used.

    Mandatory Installs on the one hand are annoying.

    On the other hand, it can help lower the amount of loading needed.

    *shrug* Doesn't bother me, I can make a sandwich while the game's installing anyways.
