LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Rayman Legends Delayed Until September, Makes Children Cry

Posted on Thursday, February 7 @ 09:59:56 Eastern by

Say it ain't so, Ubi! I regret to inform you that Rayman Legends has been delayed until September 2013 on the Wii U. On the bright side, the Wii U is losing its exclusivity and the game will be coming to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as well.

This is not good for the Wii U, because it needs exclusive games that put the Wii U GamePad to good use in order to give consumers a reason to buy one. Thus far, the Wii U hasn't quite been selling to expectations, and certainly hasn't seen the same smash success the original Wii did. It was rare to find a Wii on store shelves for up to two years after it launched, and the Wii U is already well-stocked in nearly ever retail store I've been to.

On a personal level, this is the first time I had to break the news to my daughter that a game she's been looking forward to has been delayed. She cried. And that really sucks. We've been playing the demo on the Wii U like crazy, and because it only lets you play it 30 times total, we're going to be locked out soon. This would have held us over until the original release date of February 26th, but with it now being September, we're screwed.

I assume the delay is to give the game more polish, and so that there is a universal launch across all consoles. Plus, Ubisoft Montreal may need to retool certain aspects of the game that took advantage of the Wii U GamePad.

Is there going to be a PC version? Played origins on PC and liked it, but not enough to go out and a buy a console version. Steam sales ftw.

Can't really blame Ubisoft for wanting to make money. The Wii U has a tiny install base compared to the 150 million of PS3+360. I think once Ubisoft saw the Wii U sales go down faster than Kim Kardashian at a black family reunion they had a change of heart.

Precisely. Also I loved platinum-ing Origins on PS3. Those speed runs could be tough as hell. It was nice to be rewarded with the trophy. Doing it on wiiU will net me nothing. This (completely unnecessary) omission of an achievement system will lead me to pick it up for PS3 (xbox is good, but for a side-scrolling the ps3 d-pad wins) instead of my wiiu.

That is brutal. It's one thing to delay a game by 7 months, but it's another thing entirely to announce the delay two weeks before the original launch date

So buy your daughter Origins to tide her over?

This post reminded me that I never did finish Origins. Damn good game that I only even knew about b/c of GR coverage!

Already did that to hold her over. That's getting old quickly.

Terrible news! I always considered Ubisoft to be an early adopter/promoter of new and upcoming technologies and ideas. This announcement is not only a massive disappointment to Wii U owners and Nintendo fans, but counter-active to the future of next-gen console gaming.... Ubisoft should encourage the development and consumer-adoption of the struggling Wii U by releasing a nearly completed version of Rayman Llegends for the new console on time and as originally promised and announce a port for last-gen consoles (ps3, xbox) in the fall...

I'm seriously thinking about not supporting this game because of how disappointed I am to hear this news... Please convince me otherwise!
