Report Claims PS4 to Debut at E3 2012

Posted on Friday, January 6 @ 07:59:57 Eastern by

It's beginning to look like this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo is going to be a heated battle fought with only the heaviest artillery: Next generation consoles.

Even though the Wii U debuted at E3 last year, there wasn't much to see aside from tech demos. A more significant showing is due this year ahead of the system's launch.

A new Xbox is supposedly going to be there, too.

For a while, it seemed that Sony may be left behind yet again for this console generation. But the bigwigs at Sony have supposedly decided that there will be no head starts for Nintendo and Microsoft, and have begun telling third-party partners that the PlayStation 4 will debut at E3 2012.

That's going to be some serious competition, and one hell of a show.

Pricing and launch details aren't expected for the new Xbox or PlayStation, but their presence at the show might be enough to slow Wii U sales as gamers wait for these other new console to drop.

Crazy, right? Do you really think that three new next-gen consoles will be at E3? Let us know in the comments.

Well, considering that the Move didn't do as good as Sony expected and Kinect is quickly becoming a cash in gimmick faster than the Wii wen through, I think it's safe to say Sony and Microsoft are going to announce their next consoles at E3 this year. Let's just hope Microsoft learned their lesson from the RROD fiasco and don't go "FIRST!" again because that's what made the Xbox 360 faulty for a while.

Being first is also one thing that helped Microsoft stay ahead of Sony this generation, at least in the United States. If you can get a 3.5 million console head start when your direct competition launches, you've got to be feeling pretty good.

Honestly? who wants this right now?

Give me a new ****ing dashboard and a few more social features (and a browser that isn't using Netscape, hurr) and I'm good for another three years.

Yeah, there is a lot of potential left in this generation of consoles.

Sony has pretty much bailed on the PS3 fanbase though. "Give them a wand and some 3D to play around with, then move ALL resources to Vita development."

It's what Nintendo and Microsoft have done for awhile now.

This is what e3 should be about. The last few years have been pretty boring.

What the hell have you been smoking? My PC, (just the tower mind you) which is fairly powerful, but no where near what some crazy bastards out there are running, cost more than all three of this generations consoles combined. Granted games look better on my computer monitor than they do my TV, but graphics aren't everything. Console games tend to be fair more stable at launch than their PC counterparts, and usually ship earlier too. The only reason to play consider PC gaming over console gaming these days is the ability to use non licensed mods, and people have been finding ways to do that, though limited, with consoles as well.

But if you're playing a multi-platform game on your PC, ported from one of the new consoles you would still be able to play it at no extra cost. If you want to play that same game on a console you'll need to buy a new one. That's where the money is saved.

You forgot one thing there are some games that are PC exclusive such as Sid Meier Civilization, Witch 1 & 2, Diablo III, StarCraft, and almost every MMO.

i'm with TheJx4. i'm absolutly fine with my ps3 (and my 360 that is gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere...). if anything i've only just started getting more into it. especially with all the games that came out recently.

guess it would be ok if the new consoles came out and there was still focus on releasing games for the ps3/360, but if they kept that focus what'd be the point of bringing out a new console?
so leave it for at least another couple of years, i say.
