Resident Evil On Wii U A Likely Possibility

Posted on Monday, June 27 @ 16:08:14 Eastern by Josh_Laddin

With Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D (stay tuned for the review, coming very soon) releasing this week, and Resident Evil: Revelations in the works for release next year, Capcom is continuing their history of strong support for Nintendo hardware. I guess that makes it no surprise, then, that the team behind Operation Raccoon City has expressed some strong interest in making a RE game for the Wii U in an interview with CVG.

Though nothing has been officially announced yet, producer Masachika Kawata was very excited about the prospect:

"But for me personally, I'd love to do just that. It's a very, very interesting piece of hardware. Whenever I see new game machines and their new possibilities get into my head, the ideas just start flowing. I'd absolutely love to make a Resident Evil on it. I really love the idea of being able to play the game even if my wife or my kids come and steal the TV. That's great, brilliant."

Kenji Matsuura, a designer on the team, followed up with his own thoughts:

"As a game designer, when I see Wii U, my first thoughts are: 'Oh wow, I could do this or that, or what would happen if I try to make a game like X,Y or Z.' My motivation instantly goes through the roof and I want to try a lot of interesting new things. Nothing's been decided specifically for Resident Evil but it certainly would be interesting."

With the 3DS-exculsive RE titles coming out, and a potential Wii U release, it feels like a lot like the early 2000's when Capcom threw their weight behind the Gamecube with RE Zero and the remake of RE, culminating in the release of the (then) exclusive RE4. Given how well that turned out, this could be frighteningly good news.
