Respawn on Lack of Single-Player in Titanfall: “It Was About Making the Best Multiplayer Experience Ever"

Posted on Wednesday, February 12 @ 10:22:30 PST by Alex_Osborn

Titanfall
bucks the trend of traditional big budget console shooters by offering a multiplayer-only experience, doing away with a single-player campaign. This has proven to be a major topic of discussion ever since the game was first announced, and the studio has now come forward to explain the reasoning behind this decision.

Respawn Entertainment's Vince Zampella explained to IGN:

For us, multiplayer was important. So then you look at how much of these resources that you have that you put into single-player versus multiplayer, and generally it’s very single-player heavy. So then multiplayer suffers. So for us, if it was about making the best multiplayer experience ever, it just made sense to say "okay what can we do to make that experience better." And it was taking those moments out of single-player and putting them into multiplayer.

Do you think Respawn made the right move in focusing all of its efforts into making the best possible multiplayer experience? Would Titanfall have been better served if some of the team's resources were spent making a traditional single-player campaign?
