Retailers Already Sold Out Of Wii U Preorders

Posted on Monday, September 17 @ 14:37:42 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Major retailers are already reporting that they have completely sold out of their preorders for the Wii U. Yes, the console's release date was only announced last week, but we're apparently going to relive the Wii shortage of 2006. It does help boost the hype, doesn't it?

The following retailers claim to be sold out:
  • GameStop - Only Basic package is available.
  • Best Buy - Only Basic package is available.
  • Toys R Us
  • Target
  • Sears
  • K-Mart
As of this article, Wal-mart has both packages available, so if you're dying to preorder the unit, you can still rely on Sam Walton for now.

I wouldn't doubt that information. The question then would be, how many of those are gonna be up for sale on Ebay for a profit and not really on end-consumers' hands?

97% of them. That's just how it is. The pre-orders are already selling for ridiculous money on eBay.

Which is pretty sh*tty because it will then give Nintendo a "false" impression that they did things right because in the end the thing sold out. Nintendo WILL be getting that money, so what do they care, but the thing is that it won't necessarily sell out because the people embraced the console or Nintendo's business model but because a bunch of assh*les decided to black-market the hell out of it.
I always hope that nobody buys the stuff off of those f*ckers so that they end up losing their money but that never happens. Most people don't have the self-discipline required and will end up paying premium just to satisfy their compulsions.

Like it or not, the same prices would be seen if stores and Nintendo simply allowed the price of the system to change in response to supply and demand. Try to circumvent it with a fixed price and you get people taking advantage of it.

So, complaining that the WiiU is too much money to buy, or complaining that the WiiU is sold out, who can say which is worse? At least people who want the thing to psychotic degrees can improve their chances of getting one by putting up more money.

Of course with a video game console, and a Nintendo one at that, it does put children at an extreme disadvantage in general.

    If anyone cares an Update
I guess amazon isn't selling it online and walmart sold out online apprently cant even order it. but what you can do is wait outside of walmart the day it comes out they don't do store preorders.

I'm going to go camp with a few friends the day before and see where that takes us.

No Amazon preorders? That means Amazon is going down on day of release.

Amazon doesn't carry Nintendo products except from third-party sellers, luckily said sellers are good, just bought a 3DS XL from one of them and it arrived fine and on time.
