Rockstar Wants To Make A GTA Game That Features Every Grand Theft Auto City

Posted on Friday, December 14 @ 09:25:15 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

While Grand Theft Auto V is sticking to the West Coast, Rockstar may eventually create a GTA game that encompasses all of the franchise's beloved cities.

Rockstar North head Leslie Benzies told Digital Trends that the studio is definitely interested in tying all of the cities together in a single game experience. “Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas. In that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting,” Benzies said.

With regard to whether or not Rockstar has plans to return to Vice City specifically, Benzies went on to add: “[I]t is always a possibility. There are a few references to the city in our current-gen GTAs so it is part of that HD universe, and it is certainly somewhere we would love to revisit. However, Vice City, perhaps more than any other GTA game, was as much about the era as the setting. Miami in the 1980’s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period.”

Would you like to see Rockstar return to Vice City at some point? Better yet, would you like to see the studio attempt to put all of the cities into a single game? Let us know whether or not you think they'd be able to pull it off in the comments below.

A GTA MMO!? As awesome as that sounds, I think it would fall flat because in a world like the one Rockstar has created, anarchy reigns, and that just wouldn't fly in an MMO experience. My only real concern, then, is that unless the next gen can handle such a massive world, a single-player experience would lack the attention to detail that we normally see in GTA games. But hey, it's worth a shot. People will buy it either way.

A GTA MMO would be ridiculous, if for nothing else than for the potential of almost everyone on a given server getting five and six star wanted levels all at once, leading to the most overwhelmed police department in the history of history.

That would be amazing. Imagine if it let players choose to be Cops or Criminals and you had to decide who to go after...

I think I'm changing my mind, though it still doesn't sound like a sustainable game premise. It could get overly chaotic, and thus, boring.

They tried doing that with APB. I thought it had potential but didn't really live up to it. Hey, if you want to try it out though APB Reloaded is f2p

I've heard of APB, but never really looked into it. I'll have to check it out. Does APB allow you to be a crooked cop? That could be interesting.

ooooh, if you could have undercover cops and crooked cops, you could get a "Departed" thing going on.

I can see it happening in the future by plane in-game. I do wish they make a GTA game that encompasses all of the country. But who knows, 15 years ago I'd never imagine a GTA game in full 3D.

I would love to see a massive game like this, encompassing all the major cities of the GTA universe, set in the 70s with the beginnings of the drug trade in America. Think of the soundtrack!

The drug trade in America started sometime prior to WWI, only it was totally legal, and endorsed by the gov't. Government cocaine was the best cocaine.

Well, I'm talking mostly about the massive influx of cocaine from south america. You could also make it work with heroin from SE asia / vietnam. And cocaine was (and actually still is) a viable medical drug. It's used for nosebleeds and many nose-related surgeries. Heroin was (hilariously) introduced as a way to wean people off of opium and morphine. I'm afraid marijuana wouldn't make for a very interesting story (press x to eat cheetos).

Yeah, I can't believe no one thought for a second about introducing a knowingly addictive drug as a remedy to becoming addicted to a drug. Peculiar. And as long as it didn't turn into Breaking Bad: The Game, I would be on board.

It would be ok for the next gen Xbox if it uses Blu-Ray, otherwise it would need 10 discs and that just doesn't sound like fun to me

They've already made a GTA with all the cities. I played it in on the PC back in 1998. You could go to Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas....

But seriously, I would love a current/next gen game with flights between cities. Think of the 747 hijacking and crashing into buildings!

A GTA MMO sounds cool, but I thought the idea of GTA multiplayer sounded cool till I got GTA4.

#1 the character models - as well as the city - needs to be HD quality. The characters looked like CRAP. I want the 3rd person and 1st person perspectives to be as sharp as CoDBO2.

#2 the technology on Consoles is OLD. GTA:V is just GTA:4 with new mechanics technologically. We need a new system with more memory.

#3 An MMO will never be able to run well on the 360 or PS3. I'd like to see it possible, but who's gonna pay for it? World of Warcraft is losing people fast for example.
