E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Rumor: Fallout 4 To Be Set In Boston

Posted on Saturday, August 18 @ 18:27:06 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Video game developers are suddenly intrigued about the New England area. First it was Assassin's Creed III which ditched its five years of European and Eastern roots to set sail to the beautiful Northeast, and if new rumors are sound, the Fallout series will be shortly behind.

A user on Reddit named fallout4boston—cleverness at its prime—who claims to be working on Fallout 4 posted the following:
The rumors are true, Fallout 4 will take place in Boston. In case you haven't heard, Bethesda has recently been scoping out and researching Boston. They also have a strong connection to MIT. I may or may not be an MIT employee. But that's really all I can say for fear of losing my job.
We've seen rumors come and pass over the years, but this one holds some weight. First off, Fallout 4 has all but been confirmed. Bethesda's original licensing contract for Fallout included three games, and only two have been released so far (Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas). Additionally, Fallout4.com was registered by Zenimax Media—a parent company of Bethesda—several years ago and was recently updated by the company.

As far as the location being in Boston goes, it would be a relatively big surprise since many have been expecting it to be set in New York. However, there were several mentions of a group of survivors in the Massachusetts area made in Fallout 3. They were referred to as The Commonwealth, and virtually everything mentioned about them includes technology, androids, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sounds like an intriguing setting for Fallout to me.

Seeing one of America's most precious regions marred by the harsh reality of apocalyptic fiction may be difficult for some—it's okay, Anthony, we're here for you—but that's exactly what Fallout strives to do. Expect an official announcement of Fallout 4 along with either a confirmation or dismissal of these rumors in the short-term future.

Count me in the camp that was betting on a NYC Fallout. The more I think about it though, the more I like the prospect of Boston. I know Fallout 3 took some flak for leaving its west coast roots (hell, I've talked to people who weren't too happy about New Vegas because it still wasn't "west coast" enough for them), but Boston has some serious potential. One of my favorite parts about 3 was touring the Mall. Seeing so many pieces of Americana fall to rubble and burned to ash was like a cold splash of water to the face. I'd bet that they can pull of some similar set pieces with Boston as well.

I wish they'd take it overseas and show us London or Tokyo instead of just staying in the US again.

I would hate that personally. Fallout has always been about an America. I would more lore on the ncr branching out or the grand battle that is still going on between the old super powers.

Fallout 2 had a big Chinatown area, I think it was in San Francisco but I could be wrong. Something like that would be good for some other culture to be portrayed inside apocalyptic America.

There might be a clan of religious zealots who pray to a statue of Tom Brady, they let you beat them up in the 1st half of the game and after a quick break they come back and pummel you. Not a pats fan but our team is in the afc east with them.

Boston deosnt make sense from a design standpoint though. Vegas and the DC area were both chosen because the instantly recognizable landmarks and buildings. What iconic set pieces are in Boston? What buildings in Boston will players instantly identify, if any? My money is still on NYC.

I hope they stay away from San Fran (Book of Eli). I agree with Penn, sports arenas aside what landmarks in Bawston are readily recognizible to the general uneducated public. NYC would be cool to see such a huge city sans civilization but who thinks that they may try to bridge the gap between east and west? St Louis? Chicago? Detroit?

Eh, it will probably end up back in Cali. If that's the case we need to petition for Tijuana and just throwing it out there....

So, Anthony says he doesn't have the time for RPG games like. Well, looks like Bethesda is bringing it to him.

I think a post apocalyptic Hollywood would be cool since there's so much you could do with bombed out movie sets, universal studios (is that in California?), how about an apocalyptic San Diego zoo with mutant animals? Cali might be too cliche tho, just thought it might be cool.

California was host to Fallout 1 and 2. The ruins of Los Angeles made up a set of interconnected areas collectively called the Boneyard. Hollywood isn't specifically mentioned, but given its historical importance (especially the role the 50s era production system played in the culture of the day) its total absence is a possible indicator that it is no longer remembered. Given how the post-war world treats pre-war artifacts, even cultural ones, with a cargo-cult reverence it stands to reason it would be a very important place to the Boneyard's residents were it still standing.
