Rumor: Final Fantasy XV Coming To Current Gen Hardware

Posted on Thursday, July 19 @ 13:22:58 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Despite the fact that nearly every Final Fantasy title that has launched this generation has been an utter disappointment, an alleged source close to GamesMaster UK claims that an upcoming fifteenth entry in the role-playing franchise has been in the works for the past four years and is slated to launch on current-gen consoles.

The source goes on to say that Yoichi Wada, the president of Square Enix hopes the game ”surpasses The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim” as well as the beloved PSone classic Final Fantasy VII. Additionally, the alleged FFXV director is believed to be Hiroyuki Ito, the same man behind FFVI, FFIX and FFXII.

If this rumor turns out to be true, I really hope you like FFXII, because this next major installment is also rumored  to be an evolution of that title's battle system. The game will also be much larger in scope, with vast open worlds and "crowd-filled cities on par with Assassin’s Creed."

If this game is in fact coming to current-gen systems, you can expect an announcement relatively soon. Tokyo Game Show perhaps?

Four years in development doesn't mean much for a Final Fantasy. Take FFXIII Versus, for example. That's been in development for like 6 years or more. Unless FFXV is FFXIII Versus under a new name.

Whatever it ends up being, all I want is a traditional Final Fantasy, something more along the lines of FF3 (USA).

I liked 12's battle system and the game in general. So here's crossing my fingers.

Battle system was cool. Licence system was not! I kind of want the Sphere Grid back...

I'll care when I see that they are making a Final Fantasy with a world map and some level of exploration.

I won't hold my breath. I haven't bought an FF game since FFX, which I played for 2 hours and my sister ended up beating. Not that I didn't like it, I just couldn't get into it.

I don't want it to be in this generation. I want a full on FF assault next-gen fusing Skyrim, Assassin's Creed, God of War, Bioshock and a bit of Limbo.
