Rumor: Leaked Image Reveals Ubisoft's Plan To Reboot Prince Of Persia

Posted on Monday, August 6 @ 09:54:26 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Believe it or not, the image above, which was leaked on Ubisoft's official forums over the weekend, is believed to be taken from a brand new Prince of Persia title. The game appears to be in an Egyptian setting, and the protagonist's skin is a few shades darker than the prince we've come to know from prior entries in the series.

To further support the claims that this is in fact a Prince of Persia game, the image is labeled "Pop Zero 2". I'm sure you're a smart bunch of readers, so I won't insult your intelligence by connecting the dots on that one. That said, "Zero" does perhaps indicate that this will serve as yet another reboot of sorts for the series.

And is it just me or does this screenshot look way too pretty to be running on the Xbox 360 or PS3?

Another reboot, didn't they reboot Prince of Persia a few years ago, and then was't the Trilogy a reboot itself? They really need another. Anyway i think that screen looks 360/PS3 quality, it looks very similar to Assassins Creed graphics IMO.

Alex is right about the game looking for pretty for consoles. If you look in the lower left hand corner there's a framerate lock at 30 and the game is only running at 13.

I think Ubisoft is trying to sell a brand of "pop" or "soda." These people in the photo obviously are skinny, so "POP ZERO" can be their form of a diet soft drink. It just leads to the question: What are they going to name their new soft drink?

While I'm not the best graphics analyst, to me the screenshot does not look that much better than Uncharted 3, so I don't think it is completely out of the question that it comes out as a late-cycle PS3 title. (I don't have an Xbox 360, so I'm in no position to comment on its graphical prowess.) But I doubt that a multiplatform team could dedicate the time that Naughty Dog could to getting the most out of the hardware.

Also, I liked the 2008 PoP game, even if it wasn't as good as Sands of Time. I found the graphical style and gameplay relaxing so I'm a little disappointed that universe won't continue. It also probably didn't help the franchise's stock when that crappy movie was released.
