Rumor: New Counter-Strike Coming Soon?

Posted on Friday, August 12 @ 00:09:55 Eastern by

Counter-Strike eSports community members are spreading the world in various ways that a new Counter-Strike with a new Source Engine is on its way. Apparently the community has been to Valve headquarters to see and test the game:

What can I say? It's been a long time coming! Just today news from the VALVe office has emerged as our own Craig "Torbull" Levine has taken the trip down to supposedly "help develop" the new version of Counter-Strike. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). Is this VALVe reaching out to the community, recognizing the competitive community?

Another source tweets:

Just spend all day playing the new Counterstrike Global Offensive #CSGO at the #Valve HQ! God I love my job.. oh and yeah... its that good!

All of this lands pretty far from an official statement so take it with a grain of salt. Regardless, I certainly hope we're getting new CS and a new engine. It'll certainly bode well for Half-Life's development.

Agreed. It might be a little too late nowadays. Counter-Strike was the **** back in the day, but I don't think a re-vamped version will ever come close nowadays.

*looks at Steam's Stats right now, 10:54 AM EST*

CounterStrike, the original, is sitting at spot #2 at 45,897 players.
CounterStrike: Source is sitting at #3 with 43,826 players.

Now, why is the OLDER Counterstrike played more than the newer one? People not wanting to upgrade their machines? Would love some explanation of that.

(BTW, Spot #1 goes to TF2, all thanks to F2Play I'll bet)
