Rumor Says Final Fantasy Remake On The Way

Posted on Wednesday, June 1 @ 12:59:45 Eastern by

Ever since a tech demo of Final Fantasy VII on the PlayStation 3 was shown at E3 2005, rumors have run amok on the web, speculating that the game would eventually be remade for the console. Time and time again, Square Enix shot down the rumor, instead giving us one sub-par Final Fantasy experience after another.

Surprise! Yet another rumor has surfaced, but this time it's not specific to Final Fantasy VII. PSXextreme claims that they aren't sure which Final Fantasy will be remade, just that one of titles from the long-running RPG franchise will indeed be remade. The actual reveal is said to take place at Sony's E3 Press Conference, where the "high-profile remake" will be announced.

The site won't reveal sources, and instead points to the various reasons why this makes sense for Square Enix, namely the current financial crisis the JRPG giant is facing.

We really, really, really, really, really hope they remake Final Fantasy VII. But at the same time, we're afraid if they do. Given Square Enix's recent track record, they just might ruin what could likely go down as the most popular RPG of all time.

Which Final Fantasy would you prefer to be remade? Oh, and do you think the remake would come to the PS3 or Sony's PlayStation Vita (NGP)?

Personally, I'd love to see a VI remake for the 3DS.

It better be 6 or 9, they're far better games than 7 and I would straight up murder a chocobo to get my hands on those.

FFT got a small update for PSP. They even added Fran and Balthier.

    What we'll most likely get 7 > 9 > 6 > 10 X-2.

Before the Square Enix's financial meltdown, I would have said either 6 or 9, but holding reasonable suspicion that they would churn out a remake for 7. With the greatly changed situation, I would say that they will either remake 7 openly, or go with 6 which they have remade before, and because so many people clamor about it when the Final Fantasy series is brought up in conversation (myself included.)

gotta go with 7. With the tsunami, and the already financially broke square enix. If they are smart it will be 7, not only would it give them a rebound but it will pander to the fan boys to win back their affections. Its a cash cow and square enix knows it

I can't wait. One never ending hallway that I can literally mash x to victory. Square Enix doesn't have a chance in hell of producing a remake that does justice to the original. After FF12-14, I doubt they will ever make a half decent game again.

I'd like to see 7 best. Mainly, because I think it needs it more than 6 or 9. 6 was made to be a sprite game, and as far as sprite based games are concerned, it was the best looking. So, I think 6 lived up to what it wanted to be. Same with 9, I think that when all is said and done, 9 was very "complete" and it was what it needed to be. 7 felt like it wasn't quite done... weird translation choices, plot holes, crappy "New PS1" 3d graphics. I just felt like of all the Final Fantasies that need remaking, it was that one. It has actually aged WORSE than 6. 6 is still a good looking game. 9 is still a good looking game. 7... not so much.

Gonna agree with SweetHat on this one. I feel like FF7 is one of those like if you've never played an mmo (rpg) before, you've played wow (ff7). At least in my experience with someone who wasn't a huge gamer nerd. And to shut it down before it starts, I'm not comparing FF7 to WoW.

If it is FFVII, I am really hoping that they just update the graphics and fix some of the translation... I don't want the story or combat tampered with at all - recent evidence shows SE just can't produce in those departments. Hell, I'm almost hoping they just leave out voice acting...

I hope its 7....please be 7. I recently bought a ps3 and I tried playing 7 on it.....it was unbearable. I love that game but I couldn't play it on the ps3, the resolution makes it just unplayable.

If it is any game but VII, I will stick with the original. And if its on a stupid f*cking handheld system... well, that would just be retarded.
