Ryan: PlayStation Plus Will Play A Major Role In PS4's Future

Posted on Friday, March 1 @ 14:20:15 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

To no one's surprise, Sony plans to make PlayStation Plus a major part of the PlayStation 4 when it launches later this year. Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, made it clear that the premium service will most certainly be "a core part of the way forward.”

Sadly, Ryan didn't have any further details to share on PS Plus, like what changes we might see when their next-gen system rolls out, but he did speak to the future of the PlayStation 3, assuring gamers that they have every intention of supporting that platform in the months and years to come. “PS3 is a very important part of our portfolio, certainly in 2013, 2014 and probably beyond that,” Ryan added.

Making the transition to the PlayStation 4 will most certainly be a tricky one, especially when considering the fact that the console isn't backwards compatible at all—yep, that includes all of your digital purchases as well. Are you psyched for a new-and-improved version of PS Plus? Let us know in the comments below.

In one of the articles written here, I came up this quote from Shuhei Yoshida.

"We could have gold, silver or platinum levels of membership... We can do subscription services when we have more content - especially now that we have the Gaikai technology available. With one subscription you have access to thousands of games - that's our dream"

I'm wondering what level of membership PS Plus would be.
