Sam Raimi No Longer Working On World of Warcraft Movie

Posted on Wednesday, July 18 @ 07:15:59 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

Famed director Sam Raimi, best known for his work on the Toby Maguire Spider-Man film trilogy, was originally set to spearhead the upcoming World of Warcraft inspired movie, but that no longer appears to be the case. Raimi has had his hands busy with Oz: The Great and Powerful, and according to an interview he had with Crave Online, doing both simply wasn't an option.

"They don't have me directing World of Warcraft anymore. Because when I took the Oz job, they had to move on to another director. They had to start making it," he explained. Blizzard hasn't divulged any official news on the matter,  so expect to hear something from the company relatively soon on who will be replacing Raimi.

I for one have never been a huge fan of Raimi's work, so this news is hardly unsettling to me. How do you feel about his departure? Let us know in the comments below.

Sam Raimi is an excellent director, from Evil Dead to Spiderman and everything in between. I had no idea there was a WoW movie in the works but I suspect it will suck no matter what so I say give it to Uwe Boll and be done with it.

They make the movie true to the WoW storyline and they will piss off anyone a fan of certain characters either not in it/with a small role/not cool looking enough. They make the movie in that world but not of famous heroes of either side and theyll piss off an entirely different group of fans. I dont see this being as successful as theyre hoping for.

Wouldn't this just be a Warcraft movie? The whole reason it's called World of Warcraft is because it's an MMO.
