Screenshots Of Star Wars: First Assault Leak

Posted on Tuesday, March 12 @ 16:50:11 Eastern by
While we've heard (and seen) a lot about Star Wars: Battlefront III, the project is well beyond the point of resuscitation and LucasArts, the developer and publisher of licensed Star Wars games over the years, knows it. That's why the studio began development of Star Wars: First Assault, previously referred to in rumors as Star Wars: Trigger. They thought the best way to capitalize on demand for Battlefront III would be to release a downloadable 8-vs-8 shooter instead.

At least that's what sources speaking with Kotaku suggest. These sources are unnamed, but the details seem to fall in line with what we've heard in the past about LucasArts coming to terms with the IP sale to Disney. Apparently the studio was supposed to launch First Assault this Spring, but with the change in overhead, things have been put on hold indefinitely.

Until LucasArts reveals the game or says otherwise, we'll have to look fondly on what might have been. Maybe if there's enough excitement around the possibility of a Battlefront III, there can still be a First Assault.

If you had slapped a CoD:BLOPS3 label on these screenshots, I would have believed it because that's what these screens look like at first glance.

Yeah, this totally does not make up for Battlefront 3 and it does not look/feel like Star Wars.

If comments from FR developers are anything to go by (they've publicly attached their names to those comments while 'anonymous' LA employees have speciously called them liars) LucasArts ran Battlefront III into the ground. Hell, they drove David Doak out of the industry and Free Radical into receivership. They found any excuse they could to withhold milestone payments fully aware that the studio would go bankrupt without them. The sickest part, of course, is that if they'd had the resources to fight in court they would have had a rock-solid case against LucasArts for breach of contract.

This sucks. I really loved the Battlefront games. Flying a remote controlled rocket into Vader was the best.

Even though it looks like a CoD rip off like others have stated, I would still play the crap out of this if they do choose to release it.

If it plays like Republic Commando then I'll contemplate buying it.
