Severe Layoffs at Sony Online Entertainment

Posted on Thursday, March 31 @ 13:51:14 Eastern by

George Broussard, game producer and designer known for the Duke Nukem series, sent a Tweet yesterday that Sony Online Entertainment will be seeing layoffs and that "studio closure is possible".

According to Kotaku, a source has confirmed closures in Seattle, Denver, and Tucson, Arizona. A large portion of the Sony offices at Austin and San Diego have also been given a pink slip. What this means for D.C. Universe Online and Free Realms is yet unknown.

SOE has never ever done enough for anything that it has ever published, and the worst part is their ineptitude when it comes to games. Almost every MMO they have attached to their name has in one way or another been directly sabotaged by themselves. I can't think of a single MMO under their banner where they didn't have influence over a design change that resulted in the annihilation of its subscriber base. Galaxies, Planetside, Everquest 1 and 2, and Matrix... I seriously hope they somehow turn it around with Planetside 2, but John Smedley is such a weasel that its uncertain.

Galaxies was a freaking amazing game until the changes, and so was Planetside 1 and Everquest 1. They're over extended and lacking professionalism. This is no surprise at all.
