Significant Battlefield 3 Patch Deploying Tomorrow

Posted on Sunday, February 5 @ 14:33:19 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

DICE is planning to release another patch for Battlefield 3 tomorrow which will continue to address issues that should've been dealt with before launch. But hey, who's to judge?

The patch tomorrow will fix more than just the deadly VOIP issues that have plagued virtually every Battlefield game in existence, as it will bring some balance as well. For one, mortars will no longer be deployable in spawn areas. So long are the days of being blown up by a guy hiding in a command center while eating a TV dinner. Additionally, the M-COM Defender ribbon will be easier to obtain according to Senior Designer Fredrik Thylander, who commented that players have found the ribbon too difficult to achieve for its value. More experience points? Yes, please! Lastly, Thylander confirmed that flares will no longer break lock-on, so if you carry anti-air in your load-out, prepare to be frustrated.

Complaints about clunky aiming mechanics and framerate drops have gone unaddressed, but there's always next patch -- or Counter-Strike: GO.

The PlayStation 3 version will see this update before either of the other platforms, mostly due to the VOIP fix, but you can expect to see it arrive on the Xbox 360 and PC within the next couple of weeks.

Wait...so how is that bad if you no longer lose lock on? Just wait for the dude to deploy flares, wait a sec then shoot. Thats what I used to do anyway. Worked well for me. Am I missing the point or something?

I'm taking a guess but I think it should add to the logic of only firing one heatseeker from vehicles, then if an enemy deploys flares being able to fire your second to help insure at least the second missile hits.

I haven't played BF3 in about a month, but when I saw these posts on Twitter and confirmations I knew you guy would be happy. It's a bummer that it's taken so long to change but at least it's coming.

Ok I just tried out the USAS-12 with FRAG rounds in the new patch and nothing appears to have changed at all. The guns rate of fire and everything else appears to be the exact same as it was previously.

I only got to play for a little bit today but flares have experienced a significant nerf. ECM seems a bit more viable now.

From what i have gathered over the last few days, i haven't noticed any change in the game. Although it does seem as though less people are using the USAS (or the 'hey look at me i can't really shoot so i'll use this thing'), but still when i meet someone using it i go down irrespective of the range or what weapon i'm shooting at them with, even if its a buckshot round from an 870 to the chest at a range of 10m where i hit them first! Or my personal favourite outcome, which is me running somewhere else minding my own business when a 12g frag round takes me down in 1 hit from nearly half a mile away!!! GRRRR
