Skyrim 1.6 Update Brings Mounted Combat

Posted on Friday, May 25 @ 12:44:52 Eastern by

Fans asked, begged, pined for it for months, and now they've finally got it: Mounted Combat!

Bethesda has announced that, in addition to the patches that added Kinect support and new kill cameras, mounted combat will be coming, in the 1.6 update (which comes of course with plenty of bugs and fixes). This feature was previously seen in the Skyrim Game Jam video and, more importantly, will be absolutely free.

Mounted Combat will allow players to perform melee and ranged combat on their horse, which will make Shadowmere much more useful. And just in time for Dawnguard.

Those enrolled into the Steam Beta Update can check out the feature now, though Bethesda recommends that you back up all your previous saves from Patch 1.5.

I'm surprised it wasn't included in the original game, seeing that games released before Skyrim already had that feature.

I don't recall Morrowind even having mounts, period. I vaguely remember either Arena or Daggerfall being able to ride a horse....I highly doubt combat tho. Maybe Bras is referring to mods or something.

I meant other games in general, like Assassin's Creed 2 melee combat for example, I didn't mean TES specifically, to me, it's not a complex feature, but what do I know.

I've been wanting to play Skyrim again, but if they still haven't fixed smithing, this isn't going to bring me back.

If you're referring to smithing leveling up too fast I thought they made it so the skill goes up in relation to the price of the item smithed in the last patch, unless I'm crazy.

For me, no matter what fantastically difficult to craft item I make, my skill increases by about 0.0000001.

I must not have played since they changed it, my first character leather-helmeted himself to 100 in Blacksmithing really early
