Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Skyrim Will Include Same-Sex Marriage

Posted on Thursday, August 25 @ 12:06:31 Eastern by
Venerable Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda, has revealed merely noted that Skyrim, just as the other RPG in development Mass Effect 3, will have same-sex marriageand I suppose every other kind of monogamous humanoid marriage possible in the game:

Pete then clarified what he meant:

This has some fundamentalist Christians citing Leviticus all over the comment sections on the internet, regurgitating that this is "yet another attempt" of people pushing their political beliefs and gay agenda. Of course, those same people believe that any gay man who opens his mouth is an agenda...

I give Bethesda a lot of respect for taking this "Yeah, so what?" attitude about gay marriage, because I'm pretty much the same way: What's the big deal?! It's amazingly sad that we need to have video games to show us the "fantasy" of gay acceptance and that we have people complaining about a virtual world. Anyway, let's get back to slaying dragons, ghouls, and evil people who are trying to destroy happiness.

I can't wait to have make a home with another dude lizard, caring for (then eating) the children we've kidnapped.

Not a huge deal? Sure it starts out as just man on man, but then you move up to man on ork, man on tiger-man, and man on lizard-man. And once you go that far, you are pratically on level of such perversion as man on dragon, man on goblin, and worst of all, man on troll (which, to my knowledge, always ends up as troll on man).

But I think the real reason not to make a big deal out of marriage is that if it is anything like fable, marriage will be essentially nothing more than picking out an npc with the least hideous character model. I can't imagine it easy to give endearing personalities to every NPC walking the streets. But then again, I can't tell the difference between fable and a turd about to get reheated, so maybe Skyrim will find a way to make it more interesting.

If you're man enough, the troll will take it.

I agree with the Fable III sentiment... not one of the gay stereotypes hawking their dicks were at all attractive to me. Hopefully, Skyrim will do a much better job. It won't be that hard.

"...evil people who are trying to destroy happiness."

Just wanted you to know that I laughed pretty hard at that. I don't know why, but I found it hysterical. That's all I have to contribute to this thread.

Okay Daniel. I nominate sandineyes to The People Speak, because his troll comment was funny. I don’t know maybe he was just trolling, but he got my nomination anyway.

Agreed about the Fable comparison. I'm still hoping that will be avoided, maybe by limiting marriage to companion characters or certain special NPCs, but the way they say "any male or female" has me concerned that -- at best -- we're going to see Dragon Age II syndrome where every character is bi for the Dovahkiin.

But all of those are legal in the state of New New York... even ghost and horse! Why NOT pixelated man and pixelated tiger-lizard-man-shark?

"NOW WITH GAY VIKINGS!" So sayeth the gamestop shop on powel street, San Francisco, as they fought off the horde of gaymers at their doorstep. Leviticus 28

And lay off Fable! I was happy to go bareback in that game! ...with pink mutton chops!

    Gaymer... a new Elven race?

In all seriousness though, I applaud Bethesda's "So what?" stance on the option. Not making a statement, merely giving the option for those wish to opt.

I’m I the only person in the world to find it a little odd (queer?) to have a game set in a medieval time frame that has such a progressively modern attitude toward gay marriage? Wouldn’t they be more backwards than that?

Christianity is much the only group that has ever heavily persecuted homosexuality throughout history, no Chrisitian denominations in Skyrim therefore no persecution

Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable. Leviticus 18:22 (NIV)

This is from the old testament which was and still is a Jewish holy book also. And I never said there would be persecution, even in societies that openly embraced homosexual behavior, such as the classic Greeks, marriage was between a man and a woman. Gay marriage is a totally modern idea the first time I ever heard of it was in a Hard Times segment, titled Dutch Treat (pg 136), in the August 1983 issue of Penthouse magazine.

A gay lizard man couple must go thru tons of lube... they probably use whale oil or something similar in medieval times.
