Sony Confirms Vita Price Cut In 2013

Posted on Monday, October 1 @ 07:41:34 Eastern by Keri_Honea

In an interview with Eurogamer, Sony's UK managing director, Fergal Gara, has confirmed that Sony will be cutting the price of the PlayStation Vita in 2013. "We always aim to establish price cuts. So the question is not so much if, but when," Gara said.

So yes, when is that when? Well, they don't know yet. Gara said that the timing for the price cut is "still under discussion."

Sony already said that there would not be a price cut in 2012, but they plan to try to boost sales with software/system bundles. The Assassin's Creed Liberation and Call of Duty bundles may move units in the US, but it probably won't be as many as they hope.

If you haven't bought a Vita yet, will a bundle push you over the edge, or are you going to wait for the price cut in 2013?

I pre-ordered the Assassin's Creed Liberation bundle. I'm having second thoughts about it, though.

The bundle isn't bad, but I'm not sure how many other games on Vita I really want. Might make a last minute switch to a 3DS.

I regret buying my 3DS I have put a total of about 10 hours into the entire system. I have put 100 hours into 3 games on my Vita.

Thanks for the feedback. I've seen a couple of games (Gravity Rush and Uncharted: Golden Abyss) on sale for $15 each. Even though they just announced there will be a price cut in 2013, The Assassin's Creed Liberation bundle gives you the system, a memory stick? and the game for $249 which isn't bad.

Plus , I like the cross-play idea with my PS3. I'm just wondering if I have to pay twice for PS+?

I like them both to be honest. I have recently been having a blast with Super Mario 3D Land. Before that I was playing Shinobido 2 and Gravity Rush on the Vita. So far I think the Vita wins due to it being like a small console in the palm of your hands. However, the 3DS is a lot of fun too.

One word of advice. If you decide on the 3DS, and have medium size or bigger hands, get a 3DS XL. I didn't play my 3DS much until I upgraded to the XL because it cramped my hands pretty badly. The XL solves that problem and I don't notice cramping until I have been playing for a long time now.

I did pick up ACIII for PS3 instead of 360 on the off chance I break down and buy a Vita, but as of right now, I have no plans to buy one. There still are not nearly enough quality games out there to convince me to spend the money on the thing. Maybe with a price drop I'll consider. Especially if they drop the price of that horribly overpriced proprietary memory at the same time.

Don't get your hopes up on that memory card price cut (any time soon). That's where Sony is making the majority of it's money on this thing. That being said, they have been as high as 50 percent off on Amazon.
