Square Enix Demos Next Gen Final Fantasy Tech Demo, Holy Shit
Posted on Wednesday, June 6 @ 08:49:46 Eastern by Anthony Severino
The last time we saw "next gen" tech demos, was back in 2006 for the PlayStation 3 in 2006... Same time that they debuted Final Fantasy Versus XIII. I can't help by hold back much of my excitement, thinking that I may have to wait a decade before I see a game using this tech. But goddamn, this new next gen tech demo, called Agni's Philosphy, looks so amazing. There's not much more I can say other than, wow, I wish real next generation consoles were announced this week during E3, because... well, just watch.
ZOMG. Thought I was watching Resident Evil 5 on a couple of those scenes. Didn't know Square Enix would make something so beautiful, so twisted as well!
So what if it's real-time? Uncharted 3 looks really great during cutscenes...but not all that amazing during actual gameplay. Especially not the multiplayer.
Yeah it's a real time cutscene....The cutscenes looked pretty decent (at the time) for FF7, but the gameplay graphics were pretty horrid in comparison.
Unfortunately there isn't much explaination of what this video is, but I think by "real-time" it means that rather than like a normal cutscene, which is just like a little movie inserted into a game and all the frames were pre-rendered during game production by some powerful computer, the frames of this video were rendered on the fly, akin to an "in-game cutscene", suggesting that the regular gameplay could look like that as well.
Not exactly. Real-time just means in-engine. There's usually a very noticeable discrepancy between gameplay graphics and "real-time" cutscene graphics.
Take Resistance 3 for example, it looks just as good as UC3 during the cutscenes, but it's a different story during the actually gameplay. Because you can't render everything the same way, because of they things added into the memory. The graphics you see during gameplay on these advanced engines are a world away from what you could see if it were used for a movie or something.
