Square Enix Files Trademark For "Lara Croft: Reflections"

Posted on Friday, March 22 @ 11:00:00 Eastern by

In rebooting the character, Tomb Raider also expanded its feature set to include an online multiplayer mode, for which all current DLC is planned. So what is Lara Croft: Reflections? That's the question we're left pondering thanks to this morning's trademark activity by Square Enix Europe

Just earlier this week Global Brand Director of Tomb Raider Karl Stewart took to Reddit to reveal that no plans were in place for single-player DLC. "All of our DLC [for Tomb Raider] is based around the multiplayer experience for now." Because that's what people want....

Siliconera, who discovered the trademark filing, pointed out that in a recent intereview at the outlet, Crystal Dynamics Creative Director Noah Hughes shared that there's certainly more to do with Lara Croft. "In this story, we're working on re-imagining and re-architecting Lara's character first and foremost," Hughes explained, "but then we bring her off of the island and back out into the world, and we get to resolve more things beyond the island as it relates to Lara's backstory and things like that."

That seems to suggest we'll have more single-player Lara Croft when the next game comes out. Maybe this is a follow-up to the downloadable hit Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light?

I didn't know there was such a word as "architecting" let alone "re-architecting".

That said, Lara "reflecting" on favourite levels from the previous games, redone using the current engine/game approach, could be interesting - a strictly "level" based game similar in style to last-gen games, but tied together like TR Chronicles, a compilation of past levels brought up to date. I can dream can't I ;)
