Square Enix Officially Working On Next Final Fantasy XIII Project

According to Famitsu, Square Enix plans to celebrate the Final Fantasy series' anniversary with a new announcement on the "Lightning Saga," the next part of the Final Fantasy XIII project. Oh goody.

Producer Yoshinori Kitase explained that the project has only recently begun, and the studio will announce the game's official title (Final Fantasy XIII-3) at the Final Fantasy anniversary event on September 1st. The event actually begins on August 31st, but they're saving this big announcement for the next day.

    So Square is willing to make a whole bunch of sequels to FF13 and make em for FF4 and FFX, but refuse to touch FF7 or even FF6.

    Well we did get those couple of FFVII spin-offs. Crisis Core was solid, but man, Dirge of Cerberus was weaksauce.

    Final Fantasy games don't, as a rule, need sequels. Personally, I think the list of sequels for 7, or the weak entry for 4, prove the point. And 13? They should have stopped with the first and left it at that. It was a pretty classic example of a deus ex machina, and the follow-up has been dedicated to explaining it. Which was a serious mistake, because you aren't supposed to explain them.

    Bottom line: they need to leave any FF game to stand on its own and move on.

    I actually enjoyed XIII-2 more than the first, and I do like 13's battle system. But GOD I hate the levelling system.
    Also, Lightning annoys me. We get it, you're a lesbian with no charisma. Please dont base a game on her.

    Square needs to move on from this XIII stuff and get V and VI on the 3DS. For me VI would be the one i would want more.

    Do we really need another XIII? I will never hear the end of it from my friend that its the best FF.
