Square Would Consider Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy If There's A Demand
Posted on Wednesday, February 6 @ 11:13:53 Eastern by Alex_Osborn
Despite the fact that Final Fantasy XIII and its direct sequel aren't favorites among the JRPG faithful, it appears that Square Enix is considering a compilation, should fans want such a thing.
When asked by VG247about such a possibility, FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama replied: “We are currently devoting all of our efforts to Lightning Returns.Although we would certainly like to give it some consideration – if there were a big enough demand from the fans.”
Would any of you be interested in such a trilogy? I'd have to pass, as trying to get through FFXIII by itself was hard enough.
I probably would not buy it, but I could still see myself borrowing it from a friend (if I could still consider a person who buys something like that a "friend"), because, in the end, I'm still a glutton for punishment, and playing bad games (or games that I imagine are bad) just makes the good ones so much better. After a hundred hours of FFXIII as the only gaming I did back when I beat that, the relative shortness of Vectorman was, legitimately, the most fun I'd ever had with that game, and it's easily in my top three games in the entire 90s.
In short, I'm actually stupid enough to want a bad game.
If that was true we would have a FFVII remake by now, and possibly a FF6 remake as well....... FFVersus XIII would actually come out as well and we would also have........ You get my point.
I don't understand why they are wasting their time on this game. I got through XIII and enjoyed most of it, but XIII-2 got so repetitive while I found the story lacking any real interest.
Whoever sits at the round table of decision making over at Square needs to be removed and replaced with a bunch of logical thinkers. Spock it up a little!
XIII-2 didn't meet sales expectations. XIII sold great, of course, because people buying it expected, you know, a Final Fantasy-caliber game. XIII-2 sold like, a little under a third of what the original FFXIII did, iirc.
How do you mean? I'm not sure if I follow; do you mean saleswise or opinion of the games?
I think if they were going by opinions, they'd likely make the new FF's more like the old ones. According to a recent survey, Final Fantasy 5 is the most common favorite among adult males, and I think it was either 7 or 9 that ranked tops for adult females. Whatever it was, it definitely wasn't anything past 10.
But if you mean sales, I think the huge drop in sales from XIII to XIII-2 would send them a red flag. The question is, do they care about that flag? It seems to me like they're trying to copy more Western games, actually.
I enjoyed XIII for it's characters/visual/sound and loved XIII-2 as it had most everything that the first one didn't. XIII-2 surprised the hell out of me and after many hours with the game I can safely say it's up there among the most impactful stories i've played in gaming. I guess you have to give a ****, some people wrote it off before even trying it.
I don't however believe in the third, Lightening Returns they should have stopped at XIII-2 for many reasons, for one most people are sick of XIII and won't stop hating SE until it goes away. But mainly because the overall outcome of the story is entirely predictable and even a rabid fanboy as myself can see thier time and money would be spent better elsewhere. SE's new direction isn't appreciated by alot of the old school JRPG fans and thats fine, but where this pointless third game came out they could have been working on something more traditional and please everyone. We can have both, right? Or maybe not, we need another f*cking kingdom hearts remake instead.
XIII is not worth making a trilogy, the series draws enough aggro as it is. Stop rehashing **** and work on something traditional at the same time as the story driven direction. It can be done.
Re-release games that no one liked in the first place? WHAT COULD GO WRONG? On that note, I doubt there's a whole lot of interest for "Lightning Returns" either.
Let's just see something new and original (or at least something new) that isn't terrible, Squeenix. At the rate they've been going, the last thing anyone wants is an awful remake or sequel to an older FF game.
Unless I'm the only person that felt the myriad of FF7 related media that Squeenix crapped out over the years was just a shameless grab for easy money.
