SSX Reveals Multiplayer RiderNet

Posted on Wednesday, August 17 @ 11:21:51 Eastern by

Fresh off the slopes, EA's reboot of the SSX franchise will come with the awesome multiplayer competitive Ridernet, as shown in the new gamescom trailer above. In practice, it probably won't be too different from the EA Sports GamerNet points found in other titles like Tiger Woods PGA Tour, but as a game that's totally not a sports simulation, SSX promises a more radical approach.

Players will be able to share, download, and compare ghosts to view sick tricks, and more importantly, better riding lines. My hope is that the ghost data is paired with the total points of the session and put on a leaderboard, in much the same way as Pac-Man Championship Edition, for some friendly worldwide competition. Players can also look forward to global events that support up to 100,000 players, competitions which will hopefully be more than just for bragging rights.

Anyone who pre-orders SSX through Origin will be able to "carve up the mountainside starting January 3, 2012". I'm not sure if that is the exact release date and not just some Origin-exclusive bonus, but there it is.

Another game that needs Origin? The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Will ME3 be spared?

    Most likely, no.
