E3: PC or rather about the lack of it

E3 2013 has been very silent for me. There's tons of media, but most of it buzzes past my ears without them catching the important keyword that my ears are fine tuned to receive: "PC" or "Personal Computer". Microsoft, Sony, EA and Ubisoft have all shown their cards...

Star Fox 64 Remake on 3DS Comes Without Online Multiplayer

Posted on Thursday, May 12 @ 13:22:11 Eastern by

There's no getting around it. Star Fox 64 is easily one of my favorite games of all time. Nintendo practically reached into my wallet and shook the price of a 3DS out of it when they announced that the classic Nintendo 64 shooter was coming to the 3DS.

Seriously, I'm compelled to play Star Fox 64 once a year. Still, I've got to criticize Nintendo on one point. During a retailer briefing in Japan several twitter accounts let loose the following information:

-The game has 3DS mode, N64 mode, and Battle mode.
-In 3DS mode, you use the gyro sensor to control your ship.
-Battle mode supports four players
-Battle mode will support download play.
-During combat, your face is shown as an icon, allowing for easy identification of who's who.
-The game will not have online play via Wi-Fi Connection.

... What? Seriously? No online dogfighting? What about maybe online co-op? None of that?

This is bull sh**.

Let's hope Nintendo reverses this decision between now and E3 2011. Game Revolution will be there liveblogging the press conferences, getting hands-on impressions, and delivering everything you need to know straight to your eyeballs. Check out our E3 2011 tag page for the latest updates.

4 Person Online Multiplayer would be lame. The Multiplayer in Star Fox 64 was Lame. The map was huge, and it took forever to find one another, and if you were in the tank doubly so. If they wanted to make Online Multiplayer, they'd have to completely remake it. Maybe make it support 16 people, and make the maps more interesting. Add Team based combat, etc. Just adding online to the 4 player mode be, IMO, pointless.

That isn't to say I wasn't sold on the 3DS the moment I heard I could get Star Fox 64. I also still play it regularly... I don't know why all the Star Fox games after 64 needed to involve getting out of your ship. Why did they do that? Why can't we just have have a Star Fox 64 clone with new levels? That's all I want.

moretokes: Well, to be fair, the Medals were way easier to get on expert mode, cause there were like, twice as many baddies to shoot at. =D

StudioTan - You're right that the SNES versions was a really good game, but you did miss out on the N64 (now's your chance to try it). It basically improved the original and fixed all the little annoying things, with vastly improved graphics. Even the story was a re-telling of the first game, instead of a sequel, but the levels were all new.

None of the StarFox games since then have been anywhere near as good, but I'm hoping that this one will do well, leading to a new one that has the same feel. I was hoping for a Wii StarFox ever since I played the StarFox mini-game in WarioWare: Smooth Moves, that was a lot of fun.
