Star Wars Galaxies Ends with an Actual Winning Side

Posted on Thursday, September 1 @ 16:15:31 Eastern by Josh_Laddin
It's been known for quite a while now that Star Wars Galaxies is going the way of Alderaan on December 15th, shutting down its servers for good. And while the small player base left has protested admirably, SOE's remained steadfast in its decision. But they do want the game to go out with a bang, which is why this MMO is actually going to have a legitimate ending of sorts.

Starting in September, players will have the chance to affect the outcome of the battle on their individual servers, culminating in a final, decisive victory for one side in the Galactic Civil War. From the announcement, it looks like they're actually putting in some effort to provide a last burst of new content for the event:

In addition to all of the current Galactic Civil War activities, new events and contests will provide you with new ways to earn Galactic Civil War points and advantages you can use to help your side win.

At a time and date yet to be announced, but prior to December 15th, all Galactic Civil War points will be tallied by server. The side with the higher score will win the game, and the galaxy, for each server, as well as change the way the game will end and what happens in the final moments. Celebrations will be in order for those who win and, for the losers, let’s just say they’ll be going out with a bang.

This reminds me of the matrix online ending campaign. I've never played the game but from the articles and the videos i've seen, it was quite epic.
Same with tebula rasa, which involved a war-to-end-all-war campaign.

Sure, they say they're ending it, but just wait; a couple of years after it's done they'll come out with the Thrawn expansion and start it all up again, run out of ideas and just clone Emperor Palpatine or somesuch nonsense.

It had a good run. I played pre-NGE and really enjoyed it but never got into it as much as some of my friends that played since launch and post-NGE. I know a lot of people that will miss it but are moving to other games including SWTOR once that gets released.
