Star Wars: The Old Republic Debuts in UK in Tenth Place

Posted on Monday, January 2 @ 09:48:45 Eastern by

According to GFK ChartTrack, which tallies the sales figures within the United Kingdom, Star Wars: The Old Republicthe only game that really mattered in the last two weeksdebuted in tenth place in the week ending in December 24th, 2011. So while this doesn't include the figures in after-Christmas sales, it's a strong indicator of holiday rush sales (at least, for those who didn't forget getting Christmas gifts).

Unsurprisingly, FIFA 12 took the top spot, with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim took an arrow to the knee fell to ninth place, while Modern Warfare 3 and Just Dance 3 took #2 and #3. Battlefield 3 wasn't far behind its FPS competitor in the fourth spot. Star Wars: The Old Republic wasn't able to conquer Mario & Sonic's obvious pandering to the London base.

However, these numbers don't include digital sales, so those for Star Wars: The Old Republic is likely much, much higher than they actually are.

This game will definitely have good launch week numbers but I don't see it sticking around for a long time. There are far too many issues with the game, namely with its engine, performance, and combat.

What? Who has problems with the engine and performance? The combat is different, but I haven't run into any serious problems. It's probably one of the only MMOs I've played where the AI is smart enough to aggro onto healers instead of just pounding away on tanks.

Why would Zumba Fitness sell more than Zumba Fitness 2 (and some AAA titles), isn't the latter supposed to be newer/better?

This seems as unlikely as the PSP beating the Vita in Japan for Christmas, oh, wait a minute...

I disagree. The game has just launched 2 weeks ago and has overcome the first major hurdle which is having a solid and stable launch. Many promising mmos have crashed and burned over disastrous launches.

The second hurdle will be retaining players long term. This is a challenge all mmos face and is handled by content updates. The frequency and quality of these updates have yet to be seen but to write the game off so prematurely is a bit silly.

I have no problems with the engine, I find the combat to be tight and responsive, and I have no problems with performance. Perhaps you could elaborate your problems with these things.

I pretty much agree with what you have to say C_nate. I kind of feel like before talking about SWTOR, it would be prudent to announce if you are actually PLAYING the game, or just giving your opinion based on what you've read. Not to say that's what you were doing jleack, I have no idea, but I DO know a lot of people have done that. And frankly, I don't really think you can know what you're talking about if you're not playing it.
