Star Wars: The Old Republic Turns 2 Million Players

Posted on Monday, December 5 @ 12:08:57 Eastern by

Electronic Arts has revealed that 2 million players participated in the beta for Star Wars: The Old Republic during the anual Global Media and Communications Conference.

With 725,000 unique users during Thanksgiving weekend alone and with beta tester devoting about half a day on average, this testing phase makes it "one of the biggest beta tests in history". To put that in perspective, that's about 9 million hours and the game's not even out yet.

Star Wars: The Old Republic launches December 20 in North America and Europe. Just how many World of Warcraft players will it turn to the dark EA side? Only time will tell.

I was one of them and it honestly is a beautifully done MMO and is def. living up to a lot of hype. I had my worries about it being a WoW skinned game, but it is so much more. It is NOT SWG in any way shape or forum, anyone wanting SWG and not willing to try something new should steer clear so they don't rage cry.

...and who doesnt want solid snake (david hayter) to voice the Jedi Knight, adds a whole new level to the badassnessness.

I sadly missed out on the beta but knew a few guys who played it and all said it is really well done and fun. I'll be picking up my copy on the 20th, just in time to ignore the family for the holidays!

If origin wasn't such a god damn ball-buster i'd buy this game in a heart-beat. But, I can't stand their god damn limited quantity digital bullshit.

I think it is wierd that Bioware posts all of their games on Steam and goes with Origin on this one. But as a side note, I haven't had to log onto Origin since the first time just to get the game, even though I participated in the beta I just launched and logged in from the client. Also, people have still been able to purchase SWTOR as far as I know (I goaded a friend into it a few days ago).

MMOs need to learn that they cant go out trying to beat WOW, only WOW can destroy itself. Just give gamers a fresh new alternative and they will come to you. Altho being a Star Wars game doesnt hurt either.
