Syndicate Update Leaks via EA's Origin

Posted on Monday, September 12 @ 09:30:00 Eastern by

Maybe you saw it coming, thanks to a copyright document or... industry rumor... you know these things happen. Leaks are just a part of the video game industry, so it's not shocking that EA's Origin service has already had its first leak! And it seems to have been quite a doozy.

Syndicate was an isometric tactical game in 1993, but it will be reborn as a first-person action game thanks to Electronic Arts and Starbreeze. You'll recognize them as the developers behind The Darkness (the first) and The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.

Apparently along with new player abilities, the game will come with four-player co-op and Richard K. Morgan will be writing the script, following up Crytek's Crysis 2. Hey, it looks OK, but I can't imagine anyone with a love for the original Syndicate will take a liking to this game's new direction.

Quick! Look at these screenshots!

So they took a 20 year old game with innovative gameplay and a mediocre plot, kept the plot and replaced the gameplay with a generic FPS?

    SOUNDS LIKE A WINNER!

I've already made a topic in the forum to fuel my rage, but instead of copying and pasting it here i'm gonna point out something here: The only thing linking this to the previous syndicate game is the word "Euro corp" in that first screenshot. They should just called this game "Not syndicate"
Now how much you guys gonna bet we won't be able to shot down an entire city filled with civilians to "reprogram" the populace?

Man, Syndicate and Syndicate Wars are still fun games today, and there are still things in those games we haven't seen since. However, the fact that this one features 4-player co-op gives me hope that this game might actually involve tactics in some way.
