Team Fortress 2 Is Free-to-Play for Freekin' Ever

Posted on Thursday, June 23 @ 22:31:45 Eastern by

Earlier this week, Valve decided to offer its popular Team Fortress 2 as a free Steam download for a week as part of their Uber Update, but now they've decided to scrap those wily shenanigans and make the game free FOREVER.

Instead, as per the usual for free-to-play titles, Valve have decided to earn money through in-game purchases. So why not watch this new Meet The Medic trailer below (about time...) and download their game from their website... and not reach for your wallet!

Yeah that's awesome but how much money were they really making off of game sales at this point? I bet there weren't a lot of copies flying off the shelves.

You're absolutely right. Apparently, Valve commissioned a report to see if going free-to-play would get them more money (not sure if they needed a report on the matter), and voila, here's the answer.

Although free games are good, the fact that you play against people who buy better versions just kills it.

There are no strictly better weapons, and only a few "in almost all situations better" weapons. The only truly imbalanced things are the set bonus hats, and they don't do even close to enough to put one class out ahead. Balance really isn't an issue here.

Fashion, however... Let me ****ing tell you something, Daddio. I was one of the first people EVER to find a hat with another hat on top of it. I did not find a hat followed closely by a second hat, but two hats to be worn simultaneously on one head--A "two-fer."

So I'm pimping that **** cross-server like I just won the hooker lottery and opted for a lump sum payment. And everyone is adoring me and telling me great my two hats look on top of each other or how they only have one hat or no hats(!) and are totally jealous when all of a sudden this GUY joins and he's all, "hey everyone, check me out!" and I'm like ***** what

And on his head he has three hats. A hat on a hat on a hat. Tres sombreros a la vez.

I quit playing on the spot.
