LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Everything I Learned About Call of Duty: Ghosts Last Week
I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Before Microsoft and Sony do something regarding their future in the video game business, I wanted to write, and I've wanted it for a long time now, but other things kept getting in my way, and fearing that tomorrow might be too late, today will have to do.   Months ago,...

Team Ninja Designer Sees Long And Bright Future For Consoles

Posted on Friday, October 19 @ 11:40:33 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Are consoles nearing the end of their existence? Some developers think so, but the man responsible for series such as Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive doesn't.

Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi stated during a meeting with Xbox World that he not only thinks consoles have a future, but he plans to continue to support them.

I don't think consoles are going to disappear from gaming. You still have millions of people playing videogames with a controller on a box in front of the TV. Just look at Call of Duty, for example: it's everywhere.

He then made a comparison to the film industry.

I think you can compare it to movies. People still go to the cinema after all this time. I don't know how long cinemas have been around but it's not like cinemas are completely gone and everyone is watching movies on their TV or smartphone.

Remember, it's been nearly seven years since this console generation began so it's understandable that things are slowing down. The Wii U will spark some interest, and the inevitable new PlayStation and Xbox consoles should clean house without a hitch if their price is right.

Not everyone has $700+ to invest in a gaming PC, and streaming technologies require a lot of things to work right. The ease of use and cost to entertainment efficiency of a console should be enough to make them relevant going into the future no matter the circumstances.

I don't understand why this notion exists. Just because mobile gaming and casual gaming has been growing in recent years, doesn't mean that consoles are going away. Yes, perhaps a slice of the pie has been taken over by the previously mentioned category of gamer, but I would argue that those genres attracted a previously untapped market.

We will always have car races, even if people start buying more and more prius's (ew).

Why would someone want consoles to go away anyways? Its always fun to relax on the couch and play some games!

I don't want them to go either, but the fact is that sales have been gradually but steadily declining in every market. There are probably a lot of reasons for that, and I would bet that the global recession is one of the big ones, but none the less, there has been a noticeable trend away from consoles and toward handhelds.

They will probably still be around for a while longer, but sooner or later they're going to have to evolve, probably to be more portable. I can imagine a console that can interface wirelessly with any compatible screen, for example.

I don't know for me gaming is about being at home, play some video games and chill.
When I go somewhere I don't NEED to be gaming on the go because when I go somewhere else, its not time to be gaming. I'd say yeah maybe on a phone for 5-10 mins but thats it
I have a 3ds & a vita and they have been collecting dust... mainly because there's no games that looks interesting but that's another subject :)
