Teenager Dies From Playing Too Much Diablo III

Posted on Tuesday, July 17 @ 11:36:16 Eastern by

A teenager in Taiwan died after playing Diablo III for 40 straight hours in an internet cafe, according to the United Daily News broadsheet reported yesterday.

The 18-year-old, surnamed Chuang, reserved a private room at the cafe in Tainan and, starting at noon on July 13, played for nearly two days continuously without eating.

An attendant woke him up on the morning of July 15 after he had been resting on a table, but after taking a few steps, he collapsed and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Authorities speculate that him sitting for that period of time caused cardiovascular problems.

I speculate that him NOT EATING caused his death.

Lack of eating was probably a problem along with lack of water or proper fluid intake. You can die faster from dehydration. Along with sleep deprivation(when I was 11 I tried to stay up for 5 days straight, I drank and ate well but by the 5th day I was having hallucinations and was having massive headaches like I was having a seizure, I ended up sleeping for 30 hours and woke up absolutely starving and unaware I had lost over a whole day.)

So probably a combination of the 3.

p.s. this is what you get for buying blizzards shitty drm! x-x..........ok maybe you dont deserve to die.

Maybe they should install those timers on the computers that tell you to get up and stretch every 15 minutes or so. I can't imagine simply not eating, or even not drinking, alone would cause death in two days.

I can see how it would be cardiovascular. That amount of time spent sitting, coupled with dehydration can cause blood clots within your vessels.

I like the "Teenager Dies FROM playing diablo 3" vs teenager dies after playing a video game, or after watching tv, or after being sleep/food/water deprived for two days. I understand that Diablo 3 was obviously the cause of this guys's death but just maybe... prexisting health conditions played a role.

That's one good thing about The Secret World. It's so bad that nobody could ever die while playing it.

People is Asia really need to understand the bodies need for rest and sustenance. Its common knowledge going an extended period of time without rem sleep will eventually kill you. Then again natural selection works on humans too.

They had a similar story like this on 1000 ways to die. Guy played video games for days or whatever, had bad circulation, got a blood clot somewhere, and then when he stood up suddenly, it loosened the blood clot and got stuck in his lungs or something awful.

This is similar to the kid who died from playing Starcraft for 2 days straight. He had a heart attack.

I was kinda wondering how long it was going to take for this to happen with D3. Anyone who didn't see it coming eventually is either incredibly naive or incredibly stupid.

I honestly don't believe that you should be ashamed to be surprised if someone kills themselves to play a video game. It is only common sense to get up, and get some fresh air outside and whatnot. While such events are tragic, I have no pity for them nor guilt for assuming that they, an ASIAN, should be smarter than what they are.

Actually, his most likely cause of death was a heart attack or other blockage in his system. It's happened multiple times, actually, where someone will die when sitting still for too long. A blockage occurs in the legs due to the bloodflow there being extremely low, compared to normal bloodflow in the area. The blockage eventually gets pushed up with the blood and can lodge in important arteries, veins, what have you. This even manages to get to the brain occasionally.
