Tell GR: Zombies or Aliens?

Posted on Thursday, February 16 @ 17:00:00 Eastern by

When it comes down to it, gamers love killing loads and loads of things. Seriously. There's always a ton of killing in games. Some games even make killing out to be some sort of high-score contest, with Horde Modes, Firefights, and Zombies. If you had to choose one thing to kill from now until the end of time... or at least until you died and your score stopped rising, would it be interterestials or all the dead people rising up from the grave?

Would you rather shoot zombies or aliens?

I think it's hard to do aliens well. Off the top of my head the only games I can think of with cool aliens are Halo and Half-Life. It's REALLY easy to make them terrible, see Crysis. They're animated well but they look kind of boring and the game gets kind of dull when the focus shifts to them.

On the other hand, zombies are universally awesome. I hate Call of Duty but the WoW zombie mode is one the best co op experiences there is, and the RDR expansion is in my opinion the most well-done DLC of this generation.

To be honest I haven't finished it either hahaha, but not for lack of trying.

Every time I start RDR everything goes well until about 15 minutes in when my horse starts slowing down until it's walking slower than a person and then it slowly burrows itself into the ground until I am all the way through the bottom of the world. At this point I slowly lose controller functions until all I can do is move the camera, and after a couple minutes I can't even do that. The game doesn't freeze though, everything still does the idle animations.

Also, reference my original comment, as I was typing it I was thinking to myself "Alright Will, don't mess this up, it's WaW, not WoW, I know WoW is more popular but you need to remember this. It's your time to shine, buddy." BUT OH LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. LAST TIME I PUT EFFORT INTO ANYTHING.

    Here's the plot pitch:
An alien race is about to be wiped out by a zombie plague. Some ships try to escape. One heads toward Earth, but, of course, a zombie or two got on before it took off. By the time it gets to Earth, the entire crew has been turned (maybe there are a few burnt-out half-crazy survivors to explain the story).

By the time the ship arrives and crashes on Earth, we have a thousand plus alien zombies!
Maybe a better movie plot than a game. There aren't that many zombie-alien movies, maybe producers have been hesitant to try that combination ever since "Plan 9 From Outer Space".

    I love zombies and aliens.
Killing zombies is usually great because there is usually a shitload of blood and gore which follows, which is awesome. However killing zombies hours on end can get a bit monotonous, sometimes tedious.
Games with aliens tend to come with a lot more variety (and gory too at times, think Dead Space, The Thing game). Also alien enemies tend to mean a sci-fi setting with sci-fi guns and cool sci-fi levels.

Hard choice, i love sci-fi and horror the equally, but i'd have to choose aliens.

    Lets see.
Well with aliens you can get quite a variety compared with zombies. With zombies you only really get slow or fast, with a few specialty types thrown in.

With aliens you can get nearly anything. Aliens that want to eat you and are more like creatures (Aliens type). Smart aliens that have guns and ships and tactics. You can fight on aliens planets or on earth.

Aliens as long as it as a RTS. Zombie for FPS/Third Person.

Hmmmm, Zombies are awesome. I love killing the damn, dirty undead. Lately however, I feel everything I have been playing has Zombies in it, one way or another. Dead Island, Saints Row the Third, Zelda, and Resident Evil: Revelations. I think the Zombie genre needs a break. Bring on the aliens!

Well my dad always tried to tell me that "you shouldn't kill anything you don't think you can eat" so I guess I'll go with aliens, unless they have acid for blood-then I'd starve!

as a side note; can anyone tell me if i should buy Dead Island or not? i've got a thing where i can't buy a new game until i've finished the ones i'm currently playing. problem is, the 2 games i'm on right now are BF3 and Skyrim.

if you understand my dilemma, then tell me. Dead Island or no? or should this be a forum topic (i have never started 1, let alone comment on one)?

I enjoyed it. I also beat it. It got repetitive on killing but was still fun.
I never played the CoOp but thats because I was on the find lan players option and could never find anybody. Duh. So played the whole game by myself. Im still pissed I didnt discover this until the end of the game. Driving was fun. Ending was weak.

Zombies have been done to death and are pretty one note to begin with. Give me Aliens any day of the week. You can do all sorts of things with aliens, while zombies are just walking undead.
