The Next Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3, Revealed In June

Posted on Saturday, May 7 @ 13:52:47 Eastern by

Modern Warfare 2 set records as the biggest media launch in history. You remember that this was the same year that Avatar was in theaters right? You had to know Activision was going to be following it up with a sequel.

You also had to know that E3 2011 would be the place for Modern Warfare 3 to make its debut. Activision has made a tradition out of showing off their upcoming Call of Duty games during Microsoft's E3 press conference. Having Call of Duty lead on Xbox 360 means it's a big promotion spectacle for the two industry giants.

You also had to know that a game as big as Modern Warfare 3 wasn't going to sneak into E3. Official PlayStation Magazine dropped the teaser in this month's issue that they'd have a huge reveal for the world in June. You can see the splash page above. Apparently Craig Fairbrass has been dropping hints as well:

I did Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as Gaz and then I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2, which has become one of the more iconic figures in the history of computer games, which is great. And I've just been out in LA doing something that's going to be announced in May. I've just been out there doing some bits and pieces, and one is to do with... I can't say too much.

You're welcomed to fanboy-out about Call of Duty in the comments, and maybe you'd like to Internet-Shout at me for saying this but Ghost does not deserve "iconic figure" status in video games.

Ghost had a spiffy ski mask and a funny accent, but that's about it. I suppose if you wanted to stretch it, you could call him iconic with the CoD series or something; but in all of gaming? Methinks not.

Ghost has a cool (yet overused name) and some pretty fun stealthy levels to play ... but yeah ... 'iconic in COMPUTER games???' really?! Sonic has more PC Iconic pull than Ghost .... exactly.

As for the CoD franchise, IMO, the Modern Warefare games are what make the franchise so good, so I'll stick with those developers over the **** that comes out of Black Ops and Wolrd at War.

I have to object, Daddio. MW2 has sooo much more camping and BS kills than Black Cops. Also, Stopping Power is the most retarded perk ever.

World at War was the best simply for the parts of the campaign (yeah CoD has a singleplayer) where you play as a Russian soldier shooting retreating Nazis in the back while your commanding officer cheers you on.

CoD's multiplayer is an unbalanced mess, I can enjoy it for what it is but it's lowest common denominator stuff and doesn't deserve to be revered/emulated to such an extent. I realize this is an uncommon/unpopular viewpoint.

I prefer Battlefield. If Battlefield 3 doesn't suck, I really won't care that much about yet another call of duty. They pump these things out every year and they're really not good enough to warrant buying every time.

De-Ting, I can agree to the camping, but BS kills is a Black Ops thing for me.
