LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

The Sims 3 Getting University Life, Island Paradise, And An Unannounced Expansion In 2013

Posted on Tuesday, January 8 @ 11:56:13 Eastern by

Just because EA Maxis is knee-deep in the development of the much anticipated SimCity reboot, it doesn't mean they're leaving The Sims 3 out to dry. Quite the contrary. Along with the The Sims 3 70s, 80s, & 90s Stuff pack releasing January 22 and a movie-themed stuff pack releasing this Fall, the studio has announced three full expansions: University Life, Island Paradise, and one yet to be revealed.

Arriving March 5, The Sims 3 University Life will allow Sims from young adult to elder to leave their home for a college town full of "juice-keggers", protests, a SimBurger, and silent study groups. Sims can choose from one of six majors at the university which upon completion will grant better promotions and starting positions in their respective fields. The Limited Edition version also comes with a masquerade mask, toga outfit, and Partaeus Maximum statue, ready for all your Animal House needs.

Releasing three months later is The Sims 3 Island Paradise, where Sims can customize houseboats, discover new islands, and build bungalows or five-star resorts. Sims can also learn scuba diving and snorkeling, which I suspect will aid in collecting rare treasures embedded on the ocean floor.

Last but not least, the yet unnamed expansion coming in the Fall will allow Sims to transport to the future, perhaps with the aid of a time machine. Ah, if there only was a "The Sims 3: Mass Effect"... oh, I've said too much.

I've been wanting to get back into Sims 3 lately. I still have a custom world I haven't finished that a fair amount of people on Mod The Sims were looking forward to my finishing and uploading, but I shelved the project for a while in favor of stuff like getting a job and getting my life started and stuff.

Havent played a Sims game since my youth, when so many years ago, I played the original one. I remember not really getting into it, not becasue it was a bad game, but for reasons that most likely had something to do with me being too young to understand the true concept of the game. Now, reading about Sims 3 and the many expansions, I think I might get a copy and give it an actual try. Afterall, the only thing I remeber doing when I played the original was builing a place with no doors and letting the Sims starve to death. Of course, I would probably still do that to the first poor Sim that ever questioned my god complex ;-)

The Sims 3 is kinda cool in that there are no loading screens. You can physically walk your Sim down to the store or explore a town on foot, no more 'instanced' stores and locations. The entire city is seamless.

I got off the horse a few years ago (I still have my sobriety chip). I just can't go back there, I'll never return. Fortunately I have Shogun 2, I don't feel as weird dumping hours into that.
    But there was a time...
