After all these years, and growing up with Windows 3.1, I have seen an entire evolution of computers and software. Touch screens and large resolutions were a pipe dream just 15 years ago. Now it's the norm. Going from a Packard Bell (yes, before HP) that couldn't run 3D Ultra Mini...

The War Z Shut Down After Hackers Raid Database

Posted on Tuesday, April 2 @ 10:11:20 PST by Jonathan_Leack

The War Z has been no stranger to controversy, and the latest development makes matters worse.

Those who have attempted to log into The War Z this morning, or even check the forums, have been greeted by an alarming message. The two-page letter begins with the following:

We are sorry to report that we have discovered that hackers gained access to our forum and game databases and the player data in those databases. We have launched a thorough investigation covering our entire system to determine the scope of the intrusion. This investigation is ongoing and is our top priority. As part of the remediation and security enhancement process we will be taking the game and forums down temporarily.

According to OP Productions e-mail and IP addresses, as well as encrypted passwords have been excavated from its database. The biggest problem with this is the sheer amount of players who have registered for the game. 200,000 is probably a conservative number. So this isn't at the same level as Sony's huge debacle back in 2011, but it could be the nail that drives shut The War Z's coffin.

To say that OP Productions made itself a target isn't far from the truth. It has a history of lying and being beligerent to its customers. So much, in fact, that it had its trademark suspended in December of last year.

If you've made a The War Z account at any time, consider changing any similar passwords. Nothing would be worse than losing your precious accounts for The War Z and Hello Kitty Online in the same week.
