I'm not normally impressed with MMORPGs, or their expansion packs for that matter, but Heart of Thorns is one of the few exceptions.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt May Not Run at 1080p

Posted on Saturday, August 23 @ 12:44:50 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

There's no doubt that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is going to be one of the most beautiful and detailed games to date when it launches early next year, but if you were hoping for a 1080p, 60fps visual experience, you're likely going to be disappointed.

"Ideally, we’re pushing for 30 frames per second. The resolution, honestly, it depends; we’re working on it, we’re trying to get it as high as possible," CD Projekt RED visual effects artist Jose Teixeira told Worlds Factory. "If we can make it at 1080p, sure, but I don’t know if it’s going to make it. To be honest, I really don’t know. Probably not. But for sure, we need it to run at a smooth frame rate, so at least 30 FPS."

Believe it or not, the game's taxing physics engine is the primary culprit. "We’re asking the environment artists to put as many physics objects as possible, of course within the limits of memory and performance, but for example when you go inside the tavern, the tables, the mugs, the chairs are all subject to physics," Teixeira added. "Geralt has this spell, a push of force, and when he does that everything flies off the table. In the beginning it was crazy, but now we have it under control. It’s going to be great."

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to launch on February 24th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Will you be getting it day one?
