Torchlight 2 Fights Diablo III with $20 Price Point

Posted on Friday, August 26 @ 13:43:21 Eastern by

Runic Games has just announced the new price point for Torchlight 2 at the budget awesome price of $20, with CEO Max Schaefer stating:

Everyone who wants to play Torchlight 2 will be able to comfortably afford to do so, and they'll be able to play with their friend online or via a LAN, or play single player offline, all with no further purchase.

As the obvious underdog, Torchlight 2 is facing an uphill battle against Diablo III, though it already has a leg up for not having a real-money auction house, an offline mode, and the user-friendly ability to mod the game pretty much however players want. The $20 only helps tilt the scale in their favor when Torchlight 2 release some time during the holiday season.

From what I can tell, there's still no word on a multiplatform title, though the incredible financial success that the first Torchlight had on XBLA and PSN would likely mean the same for its sequel. The only trouble seems to be cutting down the size of the download to fit within the bounds that both networks have set.

This is one reason why you need to get a gaming PC.

I still wish the classes weren't such ass. Even with mod pack torchlight 1 still wasn't bearable. I have high hopes for torchlight 2 though and need MP NAO

I never played the first mainly because of the lack of multiplayer but I'll definitely be trying out two.

FYI, Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer was the co-founder of Blizzard North, the defunct branch of Blizzard that created Diablo and Diablo II. Blizzard might have the name, but Runic has the people that actually made the Diablo series.

Does Diablo 3 even have a real launch date? Cause if not then torchlight has it beat on that point alone. And besides, the first torchlight was well worth the 15 bucks worth of points i spent on it.

I don’t think they have announced the beta’s date.

Getting a release date from Blizzard is nigh impossible, but many factors suggest a Holiday release.

I’ll see it when I believe it. A Holiday release is just thinkful wishing.

You mean wishful thinking? lol. I'd disagree. The beta is coming out sometime in the fall last I heard, so it would only make sense for it to be released in the winter; however, this is Blizzard, and they pretty much do whatever the hell they want anyway, so who knows.
