Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Total War Dev The Creative Assembly Lands Warhammer Deal

Posted on Thursday, December 6 @ 08:07:15 Eastern by Keri_Honea

Total War
developer, The Creative Assembly, along with publisher Sega have landed a deal with the Games Workshop to create "multiple" games in the Warhammer universe. The first game is not expected to release until "after 2013", and the studio confirmed that they will be building a brand new team for this project.

This is probably for the best, as The Creative Assembly is currently working on five projects, including one based on the original Alien movie. It's probably best not to spread themselves too thin with the Warhammer addition.

For those wondering, Eurogamer has confirmed that THQ and Relic Entertainment still hold their license to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40K universe.

Excited about mixing some Total War in with your Warhammer?

This shall be interesting! I didn't like Dawn of War II because it felt more like an RPG than an RTS and I was severely disappointed. I got fooled playing the demo thinking using only a couple of guys was some sort of cinematic way of introducing the game, but I was wrong. Wasted $10 on the game :|

I think there is a Warhammer themed game similar to R:TW out there. This is a bit sad though; Relic and The Creative Assembly are perhaps the biggest names in strategy games that are still in business and this just means an even larger percentage of big budget strategy games are going to be Warhammer-based.

My point is that we need another Homeworld game! Seriously, I consider the first Homeworld to be the highest quality RTS ever made, even if it isn't my favorite (which is Age of Empires II).

This is the best possible outcome, Mark of Chaos showed what it would be like, but it was missing something. A 40k game would be a different story. That will be the real obstacle.
