Ubisoft Says Assassin's Creed 3 Is Rich In Gameplay And Scale

Posted on Tuesday, March 27 @ 15:43:10 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

It's no secret that Assassin's Creed 3 is taking the series in a bold new direction, but sometimes that isn't a good thing. However, Ubisoft is confident that the changes they're making are good for the award-winning series.

Alex Hutchinson, Senior Producer of Assassin's Creed 3, shared with CVG just how ambitious Ubisoft are with their current project. He stated:

"This [Assassin's Creed 3] is a huge investment, both in terms of gameplay and in terms of scale. It's 1.5 times the size of Rome in Brotherhood alone."

The new American Revolution setting doesn't just mean that the game will look different, and Hutchinson emphasized that in the interview. He shared a few of the new weapons which include the precision of the classic bow & arrow, the badassery of dual pistols, and the carnage of the tomahawk.

As far as mass goes, being 1.5 times the size of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's Rome is nothing to take lightly. The city was home to 12 territories and by the time you were able to visit most of it travel times were ridiculous. The best part about Assassin's Creed 3's map being large is that it's set in America, and while Rome was exotic, being able to explore an area that is rarely seen in games is something to look forward to.

Assassin's Creed 3 is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases of late 2012. Stay tuned for more.

The article itself is good, but the title is kind of funny "BREAKING NEWS: Ubisoft Says Their Game Is Good"

Yeah, maybe a little too direct but I didn't want to start any rumors with my ability to create the more interesting headlines in the world.

    Forgive me. :)

Perhaps I missed it, but this article seems to insinuate that the entirety of the Assassin's Creed III map is 1.5 times the size of Rome. I believe I've read from several sources that only the Frontier area is 1.5 times the size of. This does not take into account for Boston and New York (I don't know how big those cities are in the game), so it sounds like the total area is even larger than that. Should be fun to see.

I just did a little investigation and it appears you're correct. The above quote is directly from Hutchinson but he was referring to the Frontier alone.

    Thanks for the clarification.
