"Unauthorized" Top Spin 4 Ad is Too Sexy for 2K Games

Posted on Tuesday, March 22 @ 12:01:07 Eastern by

When any game launches, there's usually a marketing campaign ready to go to help grab the attention of otherwise uninterested potential consumers. And nothing grabs people's attention more than sex appeal. Which is why I'm finding it so confusing that 2K Games is trying their hardest to separate themselves from a leaked Top Spin 4 advertisement that is making rounds on Youtube.

The video features the "the world's sexiest Tennis player", Serena Williams, and "the world's sexiest Tennis gamer", some actress, who is said to be the one to leak the video. The two provocatively battle it out on the virtual court using Top Spin 4's PlayStation Move support.

2K Games obviously paid plenty of money hiring the actress and Williams to shoot this TV spot, so why the change of heart? Granted there are a lot of unnecessary grunts, but there are in Tennis too.

Here is 2K Games' official statement:

"As part of the process for creating marketing campaigns to support our titles, we pursue a variety of creative avenues. This video is not part of the title's final marketing campaign and its distribution was unauthorized."

Well, tennis is the very last thing on my mind after watching that, so it may not be too effective as a marketing scheme... However, its far less shocking than some of the music videos out these days... Anyone seen a Lady Gaga video lately? That sh*t is just softcore porn now, I don't care how you argue it.
