Uncharted Dev Says The Wii U Has Nothing That the PS3 and Vita Don't

Posted on Thursday, July 14 @ 09:53:39 Eastern by

The Wii U uses a screen built into the console's controller to bring new experiences to gaming. However, one of Sony's top dogs are saying that the anything the Wii U can do, so can the PS3 when combined with a PS Vita.

Naughty Dog game director, Justin Richmond said in a recent interview:

To be honest with you, the idea of it is very, very cool. But there's nothing that the Wii U has that the Vita and PS3 doesn't...

Richmond did eventually admit that he was wrong in the past about the Wii, so anything is possible:

...but to be fair, last time I was skeptical of the original Wii, and look at how that did.

While it is true that the Wii surprised everyone, people seem even more unsure about the Wii U. It's not quite what we'd call a "Next Gen" console, and the combination of the PS3 and the Vita have already shown some interesting connectivity that could rival Nintendo's tech.

Could Sony mimic the Wii U's functionality using the Vita as a screen-equipped controller? Sony won't rule out the possibility. Either scenario would come with some significant investment.

The Wii U is still about a year out. If Sony gets this up and running before then maybe they can eat Nintendo’s lunch. And they can have it, probably sushi anyway, God I hate raw fish.

Personally it's over for the other guys for me for 2 reasons: exclusives and an equal dedication to both hardcore and casual gamers. Microsoft and Nintendo are failing in this department by catering almost entirely to casual gamers you have to look no further than this years hilarious e3 buffet of toddler games for the kinect and nintendo showing unconfirmed hardware with really no showing of any confirmed launch titles for it.....Point i'm getting to is sony came out with a solid show in respects to gaming, they showed off this falls incredible line up of exclusives for the ps3 & launch titles for the vita with what seemed like a nice balance between hardcore and casual titles so now if this sort of combination is possible between vita and ps3 which sony has said is and they're working on implementing it why by next year would anyone wanna plunge into a new system that will probably only have a little more graphical power than the ps3 but will lack in the exclusive department?

Big deal, makes it all the more easier to break when I throw it against the wall due to a frustrating part of a game.

The problem with the WiiU is that you can only connect one tablet to it - what's the point of asymmetrical display if only one player can have it? Can you imagine the utility for collectible card games, strategy games, board games, etc if there was a common "playing field" (the TV) and each player had their own screen with their cards, units, play-calling, etc? I'm hoping the PS3 /vita will support that kind of off-line Co-op.

I think people will always prefer playing a game with someone who is in the same room as them instead of over the internet. Then again, maybe I'm just old.

Maybe Nintendo just wants you to play with yourself. I mean by youself.
