[UPDATE] Free CS: GO Update With New Maps And More Drops Today

Posted on Monday, October 1 @ 12:10:34 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Update: A trailer has been added to the bottom of this article.

In typical Valve fashion, Counter-Strike Global Offensive is receiving some new content... for free.

Later today, an update will become available for Counter-Strike Global Offensive that not only does the typical dirty work of clearing out bug fixes and revising matchmaking, but also adds some new content for players to eat up. Details of the patch can be seen below:
  • Revised matchmaking system for Classic Competitive mode.
  • Two new maps:
    • de_vertigo - A classic map based in a government complex under construction.
    • ar_monastery - A new take on the classic monastery map with the arms race game mode.
  • A large number of bug fixes that were reported by the community.
Unfortunately, it appears that this update will be available on PC before both console versions of the game which currently don't have a planned release date.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the header image of the guy falling off the side of a building was from a Tweet on the official CS: GO Twitter account. It's a tribute to the thousands of people who have fallen from de_vertigo's nauseating heights and the thousands more that will be sure to follow the release of this patch.

    ar_monastery CLASSIC?

    Better than nothing I suppose, I hope cs_assault, cs_mansion, de_cbble, de_prodigy, and cs_militia follow suit.

Of those cs_militia is the most enticing. It was such an ugly map in 1.6 but had a fantastic layout that emphasized combat of all distances.

The 1.6 version was ugly as hell, but I remember the Source version basically breaking my computer back in the day because the polycount was so high and it used so many advanced effects. It was weird too, because it didn't even fit with any of the other maps since it looked like it was from an entirely different game.

I do agree though, I hope it gets a GO remake, I'm liking the game even more than 1.6 at this point.

Assault will complete my list of must have maps....

It's a really short list. Anyone else a fan of 24/7 servers?

CS_Militia was probably my fav in the very little time that I actually played CS (I was young and got annoyed at waiting between rounds. Was more of a TF type, played since TF Quake, althought I hate TF2).
