Watch Lara Blast Away Bad Guys In New Tomb Raider Walkthrough Video

Posted on Monday, February 11 @ 08:16:31 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

We're nearing the release of Crystal Dynamic's action adventure, so after disappointing delays, it's finally time to get excited for the Tomb Raider reboot. To help build the hype train, the studio has just released a lengthy walkthrough video showcasing Lara's escape from a monastery.

Complaints in the past have been leveled at this game, claiming that it is basically an Uncharted ripoff.  I won't deny that it definitely borrows some elements from Naughty Dog's third-person action adventure series, but from what I've seen thus far, Tomb Raider takes the formula in new directions, yielding what appears to be a far more ambitious experience.

What did you think of the eleven minutes worth of gameplay footage? Will you be picking up the game when it launches on March 5th? Be sure to let us know in the comments below.

Oh god, the way she got impaled is just brutal. Least one thing from the series hasn't changed.

It is awfully brutal. Wasn't expecting something quite that graphic.

Come a long way from blocky polygons, but I always just killed her many ways when I got bored.

What about in the more recent games? They have brutal death scenes if you fail quick time events.

I was pretty shocked too! I couldn't believe they did that. I do like that level of realism, but she handled the guns a little to well for what the story suggests she should. I'm definitely looking forward to this game though.

They'll probably handwave it by saying she used guns previously or something.

If you think about it, Uncharted is heavily influenced by Tomb Raider, so the circle of life continues. Given that the series has already done reboots etc, it's nice to see them take it seriously and try to completely rebrand the franchise and gameplay.

I've been excited for Tomb Raider for a while now. My only hope is that Crystal Dynamics doesn't fumble the story, though I'm pretty sure they won't. I think Square-Enix has too much riding on a mega-hit to let this get messed up.
