What the Hell Is Respawn Entertainment Up To?

Posted on Wednesday, June 29 @ 15:40:36 Eastern by

If there's anything to gain from these images from Respawn Entertainment's site-redesign, I haven't found it. You might remember Respawn leads Jason West and Vince Zampella and the creative minds behind mega-franchise Call of Duty. The two left Infinity Ward and Activision in the lurch after the wildly successful Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The duo also took some of IW's top talent with them, resulting in like... nine or ten separate development houses to work on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. While what we do know of Respawn's still unannounced project is limited, aside from the fact that it'll be published through EA's partners program and that Respawn Entertainment will retain all rights, these images are just cruel.

So... sci-fi shooter? "Down"? What the hell is this? Best suggestion in the comments will get featured in The People Speak to make up for the normal lack of nominations this week.

Do you think EA build a pool filled with $100 bills to motivate the entire team to develop a Call of Duty killer?

They've been making FPS games forever. Before Infinity Ward they were the devs behind Medal of Honor. I don't think it's EA. I think it's in their blood.

That blurred image does remind me of the menu screens for the half-life 2 games. You know, how they are blurred until the text pops up.

What I see in the lower picture seems is an industrial building on an overcast day in the valley. My guess is a modern day tactical shooter, and judging from the color palette in the top picture, with a possibly intimate story of intrigue and betrayal.

Its a blurry picture of smokestacks protruding from a giant building. This leads me to believe Respawn is moving into the lucrative world FPFW. The First Person Factory Worker genre will finally be given its fair shake in gaming.

The top picture, the thing with the word "down" on it, looks like a scope or binoculars of some sort. I'm guessing "down" indicates which way to twist the lens to adjust focus on whatever it is.

The bottom picture looks like some sort of military outpost or a small town of sorts in a mountainous jungle region. If it's set in the real world, I'd say southeast Asia or somewhere with a similar landscape. If it's set on some fantasy alien world, then I have no clue.

If I'm completely wrong on both accounts, the only other viable alternative is that it's an American-made Japanese-style dating sim, complete with tentacle intercourse (tentercourse, as I like to call it).

Guys, you have to cross your eyes and stare at it for 10 seconds.

It's not really an eye. ;)
