Posted on Wednesday, January 23 @ 12:55:28 Eastern by Alex_Osborn

THQ's assets have been auctioned off, and a number of publishers and developers have snatched up the company's franchises and studios. Reports are trickling in as I'm writing this, so be sure to check back for updates throughout the day.

Here's what we know so far:
  • Relic Entertainment - Purchased by Sega
  • Volition Inc. - Purchased by Koch Media
  • Metro Franchise - Purchased by Koch Media
  • Homefront Franchise - Purchased by Crytek
  • Evolve (Turtle Rock Studios' project) - Purchased by Take Two
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth - Purchased by Ubisoft
  • THQ Montreal - Purchased by Ubisoft
Stay tuned to GameRevolution for additional updates on where THQ's assets are headed.

Honestly this probably won't affect gamers all that much. The good games and franchises will continue on under new management, and the not-so-good ones will be put out to pasture. I just hope Red Faction finds a future, that series has a special place in my heart.

Seriously!!!! I've loved RF since the first one on PS2, how could no one have picked this up??!!!! Man I wish DICE would step up and grab RF and turn it back into a FPS, with the Frostbite 2.0 Engine and their penchant for destructible environments, seems like the perfect match

Volition is the developer for Red Faction and they were acquired. What pisses me off was there were apparently no bids for Vigil. This effectively means there will be no more Darksiders games.

Wow, i didn't even think about that one. Wow what a missed opportunity, Darksiders is awesome!! So I mean does that mean that no one can acquire the ip?

I have no idea. I hope not. I just can't believe that NO ONE bid on Vigil, from other reports I have read.

I do agree with you though. RFG is awesome. A buddy of mine and I still play it online sometimes.

Glad to see South Park was picked up by Ubisoft. Not sure how far along in development the game was but it now looks like it is in good hands. Its also good to see the Metro Franchise was picked up, though Im not all that familiar with Kock Media or their works. Metro: Last Light looks like it could be good. Questions though. 1) Has the new Metro finished production? And if so, will it be released under the THQ banner? I guess that question can kind of be asked for all those titles.

is Koch Media the same as Koch Records? If so, those games will never see the light of day!

Looked them up, seems they published STALKER and Dead Island under the Deep Silver label. I say give me Metro: Last Light and then we'll see from there.

Hopefully Sega gives Relic the same freedom that it seemed they enjoyed with THQ. They were allowed to buck some trends and produce some great games under the Warhammer license. Anyone know if this will fix the Homeworld problem too? It could be a good time for Homeworld 3.

if they picked up the Homeworld ip along with relic the future looks bright but without knowing exactly where the ip is who knows, sega does know RTS can make money tho so i think it'd be really stupid of them not to snatch it

I'm weary of Sega getting Relic, downright cautious. I don't know why, but it makes me sick to my stomach to think of how they may butcher Relic and its titles.

The did a good job with the total war series. I doubt they'll screw up relic.

True, but Warhammer 40,000 and Company of Heroes have completely different feels to them. I'm sure it'll work out fine, I'm just being paranoid.

So Homefront was bought, but not Vigil? Awesome, there goes any hopes for Darksiders 3. Also I hope Sega treats the Warhammer games well. I was hoping for a Dawn of War 3, too.

They said that's what they know so far. Perhaps there's a huge bidding war for Darksiders and Metro between some big names (only because these 2 games I want to see more of).

Relic getting picked up by Sega is kind of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire for them.

Funny side note about the sale: One of the contracts that Ubisoft assumed as a result of the South Park purchase was for Jeffrey Sloan, a consultant hired to 'advise on age ratings'. Jeffrey Sloan was the director of ratings for the ESRB from 1995 - 2005.

I'll be interested to see how racy the game is if they've hired that kind of help to make sure their content tows the line.
