LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Wii U Controllers Are So Expensive...

Posted on Thursday, June 16 @ 06:21:48 Eastern by

The Wii U isn't so much of a powerhouse that it will cost significantly more than the PS3 and Xbox 360 (or even the current Wii for that matter). But the Wii U's new controller?  That'll be very expensive.

How expensive? Nintendo isn't saying. But what they are saying is that they're not even going to bother creating anything more than a one-controller experience for the Wii U, due to "cost issues":

Technically, it is possible for the Wii U to support multiple Wii U Controllers,

But...

We're not planning on asking our customers to buy multiple Wii U Controllers.

The reason being is that a "considerable" price will be involved. Nintendo has also said that the new controller will be the most expensive controller ever.

The Wii U's controller is its main selling point, otherwise it's merely a Wii HD. Consumers have had to purchase an additional controller with nearly every console ever released. Only allowing for one controller per Wii U is going to cause some confusion, and seems like Nintendo is holding back the system's potential.

But seriously. How much is this controller going to cost?

I'm betting at least $200. There is a lot of fancy sh*t on that thing, fancy sh*t adds up fast...

@ Sweet Hat, good idea. I may actually set up a pool in the forums. I'm guessing $99 for the controller, console priced at $299.99.

If this thing doesn't pony up some hard-hitting, online multiplayer games it's going to bomb pretty hard, simply because "casual" gamers won't spend $100+ apiece on a second or third controller like they would with the Wii. Nintendo is really walking a razor's edge with this thing and they really need to be careful how they plan their next step with it.

LMAO!! "Nintendo has also said that the new controller will be the most expensive controller ever." They better have the MOST AWESOME Games EVER if people are going to fork over the amount of money these controllers are going to cost! I mean....People are complaining about the price on games alone now-a-days. Yea...the Wii U wont have a DVD or Blu-Ray Player to keep cost down...but we'll make up for that lost money in our controllers!! Nothing but Re-Hashed old games over and over again in the past years.....I think I'm done with Nintendo! Unless they have something AMAZING under their sleeves....I refuse to give them any of my money!

The difference is, other consoles actually have third party support, so you get more than just nintendos crap every year.

True...but Nintendo goes way back since the SNES was out with the Super Mario Allstars. Correct me if I'm wrong...but I'm pretty sure GR even made a post about it.

Any how many Call of Duty games, Final Fantasy games, or Halo games have you played, and how many games in E3 last couple weeks ago were original IPs and how many were sequels?

I'm guessing the controller's gotta be around $100.

look at just the hardware for the controller. camera, touchscreen display, speakers, i'm betting 200 bucks for the controller alone. the whole system is going to be 450. which is crap. if nintendo doesn't have the most epic single player gaming experiences for the next 4 years this will absolutely tank...

I'd say $150 to $200 is about right for the cost of the controller. A basic wireless controller for the 360 and PS3 retails for about $50, and that's without a six inch touch screen, the accelerometers, camera, and the extra processing power this monstrosity is going to have.

Maybe their plan is to get the kids to fight over who gets the "real" controller, so ultimately they will break it, and have to buy a new one! Rinse and repeat ad nauseum. Ka-Ching!

Somehow I see alot of people buying the system as a gift or something, then realize there isn't a controller included. "What? The controller cost as much as the system?!". It should be called the Faiil U
