LATEST FEATURES Being A Console Is Actually Xbox One's Worst Asset
Microsoft's newest console has lots of different features, but video games might hold the device back from the software giant's true intentions.

Everything I Learned About Call of Duty: Ghosts Last Week
I wasn't allowed to talk about the new Infinity Ward game last week when I met with Activision, and I don't have much to say now that Xbox One spilled the beans.

Wii U Day One Patch Download Is A Whopping 5GB

Posted on Saturday, November 17 @ 22:01:10 Eastern by Jonathan_Leack

Those of you looking to pick up a Wii U, throw it in your media center, and begin enjoying the next generation are in for a rude awakening.

Upon booting up the Wii U a mandatory firmware update needs to be downloaded which weighs in at an absurd 5GB. Inherently, you'll spend your first hour or two downloading and applying the update before you can dive in and begin enjoying your big purchase.

Forums are flooded with people patiently waiting for the download to complete. Those with slower bandwidth speeds are really in a sore spot with the update taking an entire night.

If you plan to get a Wii U today, make sure you have some popcorn ready.

Wow, that sucks when you buy a new console you just wanna hook it up and play!
Also, its going to eat up the hard drive that's already pretty small...

This is a perfect example why I never buy a console at launch. The next batch of consoles they produce will most likely have the firmware pre-installed but with the advertised 8GB/32GB intact.

I still have NO IDEA what the hell a Wii U actually is. I played with the controller in Gamestop and I just can't figure it out. this thing has failure written all over it.

You know what the worst part of this is? People are going to be opening up their Wii U's on christmas day, and the first thing they are going to do is download a huge update instead of playing their new games. Do Nintendo realise they are ruining christmas morining for kids all over the world (....and me)?

If you're a kid with good parents, or a good parent, you have the sense to open the console up and patch the thing before Christmas morning. Otherwise you get what you deserve.

Always assuming of course that the Wii U servers don't crash from all the people downloading at once, and that the skeleton staff assigned to maintaining them (it is Christmas day, so it will be manned by as few people as possible) can get everything working again. Ho Ho Ho indeed.

Wii U : too complicated for soccer moms and too frustrating for hardcore players.

What demographic is this aimed at exactly?

If that's what audience they are seeking, Nintendo will be making more money than Apple then.

I don't know many systems that let you play while a firmware update is in motion.

Let me get this straight. Let's say someone buys an 8GB system. Basic OS install takes up 4 GB (from what I've read), and you have to download a 5GB patch on top of that?

Do you SEE the problem here, Nintendo? A first-grader would.

I'm assuming the 5GB replaces the original OS files. Otherwise Nintendo is going to have a whole lot of angry customers.

5GB isn't that bad, it's like an hour tops. Then again I'm not buying it.

Nintendo is taking the Battlefield 3 approach to game/console development.
